Everybody told me not to buy it...

Daewoo has been around for quite sometime. Making cars ofr years, and I believe they are the major suppliers of small arms to the South Korean military.

A few years ago they imported something similar to the AR series, but think it has now been banned. Good rifle, from what little I've heard and read.

I have a S&W 5906 and it is one of the finest pistols I own. The DA trigger is extremely smooth, feels like its been worked on but it hasn't since I bought the gun new. It is also the easiest pistol I have in transitioning from DA to SA mode, barely noticeable. It has never had a malfunction of any kind and when I take it apart for cleaning the workmanship screams QUALITY. I never will understand why some folks want to put these guns down (no pun intended).

I have owned in the past two S&W semi-auto's Models 4516-2 and a 3913. I thought thay were great handguns, solid and very accurate. The only thing I did not like was, as Mal H said they both had "gritty triggers". Lately I have been very interested in buying a Model-CS9, it looks like a great IWB gun.

I've got a 1006 that I really like. It has one of the smoothest DA triggers that I have tried -- every bit as smooth as my SIG. SA does have some take-up, but I've noticed that trigger reset is very short from shot to shot. That heavy Smith platform is perfect for the BIG 10mm! :)

FBI-Lite loads need not apply... ;)

Guess I will be the oddball out here. I owned a S&W 411 awhile back and finally got rid of it. I hated the trigger for starters. As with many S&W autos, the triggers are cheap and flimsy and in single action as was stated, have to much play and often felt like it was "hanging up" and was rough. At combat distances like 7 yards, accuracy was great but move out to 25 and next to my Glock, it didn't have it. My Glock could shoot cirlcles around it.
I will say that is was reliable but thats it. The .40 cartridge never really did it for me either, too much flash, muzzle flip and report compared to either 9mm or .45.
Trying to field strip it next to my Glock? That was a treat.
Almost every time you would go to reassemble this darn thing, that flimsy, el cheapo guide rod would go flying. while replacing it, it would bend this way and that and I often wondered why they couldn't put something a little more sturdy in it's place. Hell, even the Kel-tec had a more ridgid recoil spring guide than the S&W did. the finish was crappy looking like looked like it was painted at the factory with black paint and a paint brush. and while it was in a drawer it even started to rust for reasons totally unknown.
Finally, for what you get, I think they are over-priced.
It's funny, I liked it alot when I 1st got it, but that wore off quick..

No offence to anyone..this is just one man's opinion of them.
My frined has a Chief's special and I have alot of the same complaints, not to mention the damn thing locked up with a live round in the chamber and of course had that cheapo plastic trigger, guide rod, etc...I like their revolvers, But I think their semi's leave alot to be desired.

I never said all S&W autos were junk. The bad reputation was earned by the first and second generation autos. The third generation autos are greatly improved over the old versions. If you don't think so, find a model 59 and wrap your hands around it. Talk about trying to grip a brick!!! Try pulling the trigger on the old ones, most are rather heavy and can be gritty. S&W has fixed most, if not all, of the problems associated with their auto loaders. Enjoy your 40 for what it is.

Here in California, the CHP and several other state agencies carry the 4006 in large numbers. I also know of several state agencies whose investigators are issued the 3913. As far as I know, they've all had pretty good luck with their S&W autos.

I have owned a 2nd generation 469, with whom I did not get along at all and which I promptly got rid of after discovering that the safest place for the target was directly in front of this gun. At least for me.

I currently own a 2nd generation 645, the full-size .45 auto. It is an excellent piece, with a very good trigger pull, both DA and SA, extremely reliable and very accurate. I don't use it too much anymore, because I've got newer guns for everyday use, but I can't bring myself to sell it or trade it, so I'm not gonna.

There are lots of S&W auto naysayers around, but I compare them to car brands. The Glocks are like Volkswagens. Nothin' fancy, but does the job. The Smiths are like Chevys-nothin' fancy, but does the job. The Sigs and HKs are like Mercedes-fancier, more costly, but they do the job.

Ya pays your dough and gets what ya gets.

Congrats on the 4006. I think you'll be pleased with it.

I'm one of those who happen to like the S&W Auto's (not as much as their revolvers but then I don't know anything better than the S&W wheelguns). I loved my 39 and my 59. I'd like to get another old 59. maybe one day.
