1911's. Any of them. I really try to like them, and I just don't. I even have a few really nice custom jobbers. Every once in a while I get all caught up in the talk about them, and I go grab one form my safe and think "this time I will like it" and I carry it around and fondle it, telling myself how "American" it is and getting all romantic about it's history. It fondles real nice and is pleasing to the eye. Then I try to wear it for defense. The damn thing is way too heavy, and has doodads poking out of it that rub my skin and snag my clothing. The thing is way too heavy to cart around and only holds 8+1 rounds at best. It rusts no matter what I do, even in stainless steel. The gun either rusts against my skin, or I have to oil it so much that the oilirritates my skin. I hate having an overly oily gun on my hip. Bleck.
Then I go shoot it. You would think it would shoot well for me, but it does not. Why? Because, frankly, I have great trigger control, and I shoot a DA revolver or a Glock or anything else just as well as a 1911. I just don't need that light short SA trigger to hit the target, I can shoot just as well or better any other trigger. The recoil is kinda harsh, I guess because I am used to shooting polymer guns that absorb the recoil, and smoke seems to bellow from every crack in the gun with every shot. I won't even talk about reliability.

Then I go back to my trusty, ugly Glock. The gun I wish I didn't love, but it does everything just right. It holds more ammo, recoils less, is more accurate in my hands, does not rust, and is lightweight and easy to carry.

Really, I have tried to love the 1911 many times, but I just can't get into it. Maybe if I liked looking at and fondling my guns more I could get into it, but I don't carry a gun so that I can look at it and fondle it, I carry a gun as a tool, and the 1911 just doesn't fill that role best for me.

When I was thirteen I read a book called "The Pistol" and ever since I wanted a 1911 more than anything. Forty years later I bought one (Colt Government), even put checkered walnut grips on it so it was just like a GI's. Sorry to say, big disappointment. Big recoil doesn't appeal to me, neither does loud big bang, or expensive ammo. I could sit and handle and look at it for the longest time and wanted to so much to really like it, for it to be the dream come true when I was a kid. I liked its looks, its history, its aura, even the way its mechanicals worked. But shooting it? Nope. Six months and 950 rounds later I sold it. $500 is alot of money to just sit on a shelf.

I know you want to know-what DO I shoot now?
Makarov 9X18 East German. Great to look at, lotsa history, amazing accuracy, and FUN to shoot. Oh, and ammo at $5.00/50 is pretty swell too!

Like many others, i could not convince myself to like a Glock. Mine was a Model 22, with a 24C top, and a BarSto .357SIG barrel for the 22 slide. I fired 2000 rounds total through the various barrels, and never got used to the feelof the grip or trigger. They're just not for me.

I've really tried to like polymer (plastic) guns. I really have, but they just don't feel right in my hands. Maybe if I take baby steps and pick up a Ruger 22/45 to replace my lack of a 22lr in the safe they may grow on me.

Like so many others I just simply do not like the feel of the Glock. But to be honest I don't really care that it does not feel good to me. Because I don't like the looks of 'em any way and have no desire to own in the first place.

That doesn't bother me. What bothers me is the fact that I can not fall in love with the 1911. I bought several over the years and was going to make myself like them. I even had to carry one as a duty weapon for three years. I felt well armed and shoot well with it (Very well in fact. I always qualified with a possible with it.). But I still wanted a revolver in the holster on my side.
I don't currently have one in my collection but am looking again. This time no matter if I love it or not it will stay with me. Every self respecting handgunner should have at least one 1911 in their collection whether they like it or not. ;)

Revolvers. I love the look of a nice revolver. I just can't buy one. My best friend has an old Rossi 971 .357. It is so accurate. I am just not a wheelgun guy.
I even went so far as to buy a used High Standard Sentinel Deluxe in .22 lr.
Sold it after a year, bought it back, then sold it again. Semi autos for me.

Glad to see that so many people WANT to like Glocks, but just can't get over how "ugly" they are or that they don't "feel right" in their hand.
That means that it is a good gun, and many people wish they could like it and be happy.
I guess I am blessed that I love it. The less people that like them, the less they cost and the more for me!

I suppose it is like fat chicks. Hey, if everyone else doesn't find them attractive, that just leaves more for me ;) (Hypothetically speaking of course)
