Ever had a Rifle that just WOULDN'T grow on you?

Ever had a Rifle that just WOULDN'T grow on you?

No matter how I tried to love them, the AR-10 and the 10/22 never grew on me.

The FAL never appealed to me so I never purchased one.

Remington 700 Stainess .30-06 with composite stock and Bushell 4 Star 3x9 variable.

It shoots straight, the glass is clear, it's never failed. It's more cartridge than needed for edge hunting Ozark whitetail, which means more recoil, and in a bolt gun, that means it's one big punch that completely removes the sights from the target. You then have to take your hand off the trigger, cycle the bolt, reacquire the sight picture, and start looking for the now desperate game animal that has moved in a 3X field of view that is about two deer wide at 50 yards.

NOT what you need for a followup shot. And many do, I hear all the bolt gunners I met in the parking lot of the conservation area blasting away just like me.

I'm going back to an intermediate round in a semi auto with red dot, that got results, and usually a one shot kill. It's user friendly, and that counts for more than "tradition."

Had a Browning A-Bolt Micro-Medallion in 7mm-08 that was a beautiful gun. Light, fast handling but it just didn't "grow" on me and I sold it and bought a Ruger M77 Mk II all-weather in .300 Win Mag. That was well over 15 years ago and I still have the Ruger.

(1) Yugo SKS. Bought it back when you still get one cheap. All the serial numbers match. Thought I needed it for coyotes, hogs and a brush gun for whitetails. Bought it for $120 sight unseen. The thing is way too long and heavy. Tried to lighten it up with a Tapco composite stock. Turns out the wood stock was not the problem. Bought 1000 rds for it. Sold 500 to the other guy. Still got 400 left. Just not something I enjoy shooting. Gonna get rid of it soon.

(2) Mini 14 ranch rifle. My dad got it years ago and I've had my eye on it ever since. Thought I wanted it. Until he gave it to me to keep. Horrible. Couldn't put 2 rounds in the same time zone. Learned the hard way that just because it's a semi auto, you got to let it cool off between shots to get a decent grouping.
