Ever drop a mag on your gun?

Well I can happily say this did not happen to me. hhehe But friday a friend was showing me his New Garand. We were thinking about going to the range so he got out an ammocan to check on how much ammo he had. Well It was full and he lost his grip. The edge of the ammocan hit the stock of the Garand that was leaning against his chair. It now has a gouge about 5 inches long and at least a 1/4 inch deep down the left side. I swear I though he was going to cry. Luckily we found another stock yesterday on the net for a good price. And it looks to be in even better condition than the old one WAS. I dread something like that happening to me.

Had a silver Leupold 4-12X40VXII securely (I thought) sitting on top of a 6' bookcase (waiting for silver low mount rings). Went to hop onto the folding treadmill ~3' away to do some jogging. While jogging, apparently making enough thumping on the floor to cause the scope to fall off the far edge of the bookcase. Fell onto the TV (plastic - OK), bounced off the floor (carpeted - OK), bounced off a plastic bag of papers, magazines, catalogs (OK), did a somersault-1½gainer-twist-in the pike position, to land on the corner of the metal foot of the treadmill stand below the unfolded tread section. Left a couple small scratches top-dead-center on the angled portion of the objective bell. Nearly broke my ankle getting off the mill (still running) to get to the scope. The next nearest sharp metal object that could have done any damage are the knives on the kitchen counter about 12' away and 3½' off the ground. I have no doubt if the scope missed the treadmill stand it would have somehow made its way to the knives.

Done this once or twice (ok, more like two or three times):

When re-assembling one of my Sig's, I put the slide back on the frame, locked it back with the slide release up, forgot to re-lock the take down lever, then I hit the slide release lever with my thumb and watched the slide go right off the end of the frame and on the floor! DOH! Thankfully I have carpeted floors in the room I clean my handguns in.

Jim Keenan,I am sorry I am not a human instruction manual.I dont know where you came up with the idea that I did not check the chamber.I have never had an accidental dicharge with a gun and I hope I never do.Maybe you should think before you make a reply like that.

sigarms229,
I laughed out loud when I read that one, sorry. I needed a laugh, glad your slide wasn't damaged.

Last fall, I left my my brand new Ruger No. 1 topped off with a brand new Leupold Vari-X II 3.5-10 leaning against the workbench in the garage. You guessed it - it fell over onto concrete, scratched the butt and foreend and the barrel in several places as well as the scope. Talk about feeling sick. I thought I was going to lose my lunch. My wife assured me that other people do things that stupid, but I argued that no, it was only me that was that dumb (obviously feeling preety down on myself for that). It looks like she was right. This is good therapy for me.

rock_jock, don't feel too bad about that. It has happened to a lot more people than will ever admit it usually after/before cleaning or while in the field leaning up against a tree. After it happened to me (ok, more than once), I nailed two nails with some plastic tubing on them into the front of my bench to place the barrel between. Never again.

My cousin handed his brand new G26 to my brother, who dropped it on the pavement. It didn't hurt the Glock one bit, but both of them were sick. I lugged a brand new Win. model 70 Featherweight into the woods on it's first hunting trip. I had it slung over my shoulder, and didn't realize that the grip checkering was being trashed by the pocket rivets on my Levis. I was less than impressed! Levis Jeans are now anti-gun, so that will never happen again. I burned all of mine.

One time I was cleaning a Ruger Super Blackwawk. I pincked it up, lost my gip on the grip, and dropped it. It landed on the front sight. Luckily it was near the ground and it landed on some cheap plastic tile. I examined the front sight in detail. Not bent or damaged at all. Close one there.
