Etiquette: needing to use the restroom in middle of range session

Not sure if this the right place to ask. Usually I don’t find myself using the restroom but in case I do what’s the general etiquette, other than making the firearm safe and open chamber, if you need to excuse yourself. Do you notify the range officer or just walk out?
 
Follow the range rules for making your gun safe.

Long guns will probably have to stay on the table. If your range lets you carry sidearm in holster, put it there. Without a buddy or buddette, security of what you leave on the table is up to you. I shoot at a public range and try to keep only the minimum of stuff visable at any given time.

What you do after that is up to you.
 
Old man told me years ago, never pass up a chance to use the restroom. Now that I have reached an advanced age, I relive my self just prior to signing in for a lane.
 
I would try not to have to leave the line before I was done for the session but, if nature's call could not be denied, I would inform the range officer.
 
you know when you’ve been waiting an hour Saturday morning to get a lane and 30min in you have to pee. Not giving up my spot
 
I'm not walking away from firearms on a shooting bench.
As such, I do three things (outdoor only, I've never been in an indoor range long enough for it to matter):
1. Pee before I get there.
2. Lock firearms up in the vehicle, before stepping away.
3. Who am I kidding?.. I pee right there. If not at the firing line, then down at the 50 or 100 yard targets.
 
Hahaha public range, let’s say indoors. Typical Saturday morning. You know that RO is busy looking over everyone down the line. What if you had to drop the kids off at the pool.

I suppose my main worry is this...do people steal guns at the range?

Rarely.
But it does happen.
Unserialized accessories more commonly 'walk' away. -Magazines, spotting scopes, cleaning kits, multi-tools, ammo, shooting mats, loading tools, staple guns, etc...


Indoor range with surveillance? Probably a little better than one without.
I'd still be very likely to bag everything up before walking away. That way, a potential thief must rifle through my bag to get the goods, or take the whole bag.
But you're not going to find me in a public indoor range*. ...Especially on a Saturday morning*! :rolleyes:


*Been there. Done that. Not what I consider "enjoyable".

That's about it, in a nut-shell. Lets face it, there are times when you really have no choice on what your next "move" is going to be. Some of "us" are already there and all will eventually experience these priorities. ….. :p

As in most cases, we all do our best, I our own best ways. ….. ;)

dont leave a firearm unattended , have a range buddy watch your gear

I always use the restroom before entering the range and before checking in unless Im with a friend that can watch my stuff.
 
As an old fart, this has happened to me..I purposely walk up to the RO, tell him what I'm doing and ask him if he can watch my stuff...

Both ranges that I have rented guns at, they say to leave the rental on the bench...and go check out..I wonder how many are stolen. I think they don't like a 'loose' handgun walked out of the range..in fact, they are 'walked' into the range too..by a RO..
 
Never seen a Range Officer at my range, lol. If I had to go, I clear/safe, but a sidearm on my hip, and run and go. It is a private range, never had any issues.
 
Just call the line "cold"! Wait for others to acknowledge. Pick up your guns and then leave the firing line.

That wouldn't go over well at any of the ranges that I have been to.
There is absolutely NO handling or manipulation of firearms allowed during a cease-fire (regardless of the terminology used).

Even casing an empty, open, chamber-flagged firearm during a ceasefire is grounds for termination of your membership at the outdoor range that I prefer.
Case and uncase when the range is "hot". Bring up or take away cased firearms when the range is "hot".
No touchy, in any way, when observing a "cease-fire".

Yes, especially at unsupervised outdoor ranges, a shooter just recently had his custom BENELLI shotgun stolen off his table while he was helping another shooter with his rifle at another table while his back was turned, they just got in their car and drove off with it.

Ive had ammo stolen off my table while going down range to change a target.
