OK, I'll try to help
I have so-called "liberal" leanings on many issues. There are myriads of different combinations/sets of views on any given subject/issue. The so-called "conservative" position and the so-called "liberal" position are but 2 specific combinations. There are thousands of other combinations and gray areas. The labels are meaningless. The 2 major political parties are jokes, more or less, because they're merely coalitions of groups of people. But to label being pro-RKBA as "conservative" is just as absurd as labeling anti-RKBA "liberal". These are BS labels. Now, do *some* people fall directly in line with party A or party B's views, across the board? Yes, but by and large those people are the unthinking masses; those who swallow what they're fed hook, line, and sinker, and just don't think things through or think about them at all. When I was in my teens and early 20s, I was pretty much a Republican and a "conservative" as defined by the media and the parties, through and through. As I got older, I started reallize that the Repubs are as full of feces on certain issues, just like the Dems are. Thus, I became an Independent as ALL thinking people should be. ALL. Anyone who tows a certain parties' line to a "T" is by definition, not too brainy, IMO, or hasn't studied the issues. For example, I for one, am strongly pro-choice on abortion, neutral on the death penalty (though leaning AGAINST it, not because I'm against killing those who deserve it, but because we've gotten it wrong so many times in the past, and executed the innocent), pro-100% crackdown on illegal immigration, pro-RKBA to the Nth degree, anti-7th-amendment infringement (aka anti-tort-reform), pro-balanced budget/fiscal responsibility, an atheist (agnostic), anti-war-on-drugs, yet I'm against drug use more than about anyone I know. I don't even use alcohol, and things drugs are a terribly terribly bad idea. However, the war on drugs is not worth it in terms of the cost in lost civil liberties and money. I could go on and on, but it's going to be a mixed bag is the point. Bottom line, most thinking people do not fall into the cookie-cutter criteria of the labels that the media call "liberal" and "conservative". Pretty arbitrary labels.
