I had a 16-4 S&W .32 Magnum in similar condition a few years ago, and I was faced with the same challenge.

I ended up selling it for a helluva lot more than I thought it was worth, and bought an AR that was built by a guy that knows how to build a quality, unique product. It's leaning in the corner as we speak, far closer to the outdoors than that little .32 safe queen was.

If you don't shoot it, sell it and buy something you will shoot, or buy something else that enhances your life in some way.

Quick update.... I've continued to carry this beauty every day. So far Eesox has been doing a great job of keeping my nastiness from rusting her. It would be great if I had more time to take her back to the range.

While that would make a great safe queen what good would it do you? That gun was made to be used. It was made to protect its owner and their family. A 3" 44 Special would be difficult to beat in the normal defensive situations of today. I have only one safe queen and it was bought as a speculation purchase. That is a 4" S&W 547 in 9mm with only 50 rounds run through it, cleaned and put away. All my others are well used.

1. These sorts of limited editions rarely attain real collector status and value.

2. When they do, it takes 50 years or more. You want to wait?

3. Why did you buy it? To use it or to look at it? You must choose one. Sorry.

Many years ago my wife hit me with the most logical reason to shoot an unfired gun when she said, "You know, when you're dead, the kids are either going to shoot it themselves, or sell it to someone else who will. Why should they have all the fun?"

She's right.

The only reason I would advise someone to not shoot a gun like that, is I don't see any sense in paying a premium for a collector grade gun, then shooting it, when you can probably find a less pristine one for less money. In this case, you already have the gun, so that's not really an issue.

And when you think about it, how much are you really going to "lose" by shooting it. Not much in the grand scheme of things. It's not like you're going to sell it and retire to an island somewhere, or put your grand-kids through college on it. A few hundred bucks? Tops? If you're planning to flip it, no, don't shoot it. If you're planning to keep it...why not?

I probably wouldn't carry it, but that's just because I'm too lazy to carry something that big and heavy around.

Just a quick update. This little beauty is now in the safe. After a couple of months of daily carry, I started noticing some holster wear as well as some faint tarnishing. I'm a little bummed as aesthetically, this is my favorite gun. Fortunately, I'm very fond of my redhawk, which is now back on duty.

Well you can always find a Lew Horton Stainless .44 Spl. 3 incher!

I have both a 3 inch blued .44 Lew Horton AND a stainless 2 1/2 685 Lew Horten .357 (used to have a 3 inch .44 'Backpacker' LH but dang I sold it years ago.)

Maybe you can find a well USED one that has lots of bluing missing.

I don't know what a Lew Horton is, or what its potential value will be. If I had a gun that I thought was going to be a significant collector's piece in the future, I would absolutely shoot it, and if it shot really nice, it would probably make every trip to the range with me. BUT, I wouldn't carry it, if I had a double diamond stainless 6" python, I would shoot I whenever I felt like it. but I am way to lazy to carry a gun that I have to be super careful with and wipe down every single freaking night.....no way, too much hassle and work. my carry guns get pretty dinged up, not even sure how, even if they rarely leave the holster. but I can be careful with a pistol toting it back and forth from the range, and I don't think normal shooting would destroy the value so long as I don't scratch it up. another option is a nightstand piece, my carry gun is not my HD pistol, again because I am lazy, I like to get home and remove my holster with pistol inside and put with tomorrows wardrobe, my nightstand gun does not get banged around at all
