EAA Ads!

I think the EAA adds are targeted to guys who like VIP... and are wanting a first gun.
Cause after you get into guns you realize you need quality guns.

Just my humble opinion.

By the way - the redhead babe is much much hotter than the blonde.

I mean, if I went around saying I was an Emperor because some
moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, people would put me away!

I'm with Darrell on this one. The ads are cheesy. I prefer my hot babes to have a pulse! I want to see PRODUCT, not window dressing. Everyone uses the female of the species to peddle their papers, then the Fems (note capitalization)shout from the rooftops that it's sexual exploitation. Obviously, the ads are concieved by men, as they control all the media as well. Right OR wrong, it's a fact of life.

By the very nature of these posts, you all proved one thing. The ads worked. You remember the ad and the product.

Doh!
RugerGuy, I meant to respond to your post with a quote and edited it instead and deleted part of what you said. Didn't mean to do that but did not realize what I did till it was too late. I apologize.
Given that I can't even respond to a post right (not very awake), I am going to leave this thread and go to work.
Again, I apologize for athe unintentional damage to your post. Hope you re-type it, as you had a good point. Oleg "clutz" Volk

Appeasement doesn't work. They're not going to give up just because we become a little more PC.

Who said anything about appeasement? And do you think you'll win people over by dismissing them? When's the last time you convinced someone of anything by being offensive, treating him or her as objects, and reducing their value? The EAA ads do precisely that. Granted, some women aren't offended by the ads, but the ones I've met are.

So what's so bad about some PC? Would you rather we revert to calling Blacks by the N word or that we call Native Americans Injuns? Should we or carry on in the good old boy tradition that excludes women and people of color? The world is changing and like it or not gun owners must adapt to these changes. It certainly doesn't mean we should barter our rights, but it does mean that we need to rethink a strategy that alienates potential allies. Do what you please. I for one will do my best to convince people by portraying a positive image.

You ever meet an Indian? They don't like to be called "Native Americans". They like to be called Indians. But don't worry; you still sound very compasionate and inlightened. The N word. Great comparason. Showing some girls holding some guns is just as bad as the N word. I haddn't heard yet.
No, I don't need to call black people the N word. I'm not racist. And I'm not a knee-jerk either. You'd better get your knees checked though.
Have you written that letter of complaint to EAA yet? It will make you feel better.

I have not seen the aforementioned ads.

Personally, I do not have a problem taking notice of attractive ladies (scantily clad or not), either in person or recorded images.

If you do not wish to participate in this type of activity (male or female), then don’t.

I would expect the same rationale to apply to the fairer sex.

I would never buy any product based solely on its advertising method.

Agreed, this type of advertising is obviously heavily targeted at young males.

A quarter of a century ago, I would have thought the ads were great (ahh, the wonders of youth -- I sure miss it) but now that I’m married with children (wasn’t that the name of a TV show?), I feel that the ads give a negative stereotype of gun owners as sexual degenerates. While a number of people will always be pro-gun and others will always be anti-gun, a majority of them are some place in the middle and which way they fall depends on who gets to them first and how. This type of gun ad might turn off a potential future woman shooter.

Share what you know, learn what you don't -- FUD.

The term "politically correct" has been so overused as to have lost nearly all its meaning or social significance. Making the effort in the year 2000 to define yourself as anti-PC is an empty gesture. Being anti-PC meant something ten years ago when the culture wars were beginning to heat up. People who declare themselves to be anti-PC are like folks in their early 20s who declare themselves to be members of Gen X--you've both missed the boat by a few years.

As for the EAA ads, they're hardly tasteless or pornographic, they're just dopey and dated. If you're thanking God because something in this world is politically incorrect, then you're not looking hard enough for the non-PC materials which you hold so near and dear to your heart. Go spin a few George Carlin LPs. Head on over to http://www.guns-n-babes.com/. I'm not going to regurgitate any liberal catch phrases but the first post on this thread used a hackneyed conservative catch phrase: feminazi. Whether or not it makes the poster sound mature and enlightened is another topic. Whine on, indeed.

Tecolote and Oleg touch on why I usually avoid threads not directly related to firearms and accessories--they always lapse very quickly into liberal-bashing, accusations of political correctness, and the no longer clever at all substitution of a "K" for a "C." You know what I'm talking about: Colt is run by a bunch of liberals, my gun dealer is a liberal pacifist for not knowing about Glock's firing tests, Klinton, Kalifornia, Amerika, etc, etc. Very tedious.

Before I forget, my dear friend Mumia Abu-Jamal writes to tell me that he is doing well on death row and that he doesn't expect to be executed any time soon. He would also like to let you all know that while supplies last, he will send a free copy of either his book "Live From Death Row" or one of his spoken word albums (CD only!) to anyone with a proof of purchase of a Charter Arms revolver (UPC from the box or dated original receipt). Because Mumia knows: When you need to stand over a wounded police officer and shoot him in the face, Charter Arms delivers.

Cordially,
Your Philadelphia area sarcastic liberal gun owner

All I wanted to mention is that such ads did turn off my girlfriend. However, you are right that she has a choice of many other companies with different ad strategies.

I am all for live and let live. They lost a sale to me but may have gained a sale with someone else.

Great Charter Arms ad! :)

Shin Tao,

My kness are OK. They kind of ache in the cold from too many years of abuse, however. Yes, I did write a letter to EAA. Just like I write my representatives about gun related issues and send my part to the NRA and JPFO. As for feeling good, no not yet. I'll feel better when McCain is in the White House.

This thread reminds me of the skit from Saturday Night Live with Belushi and Akroyd, "Manly men doing manly things in a manly sort of way."

Going to add my $.02 on this. I saw those ladies in question personally at last years SHOT. While they are.... how can I put this kindly... "nice" I've seen ladies that are MUCH more pleasing to the eye at supermarkets.

Just my opinion.

(P.S. I did get them to sign one of their posters for my Son though. I asked them if they could sign one for my 3 year old son, Colt. They looked at me like I was crazy! God I had a fun time at SHOT!)

I don't care much for EAA's ads. Then again, I don't see many good ads from any gun company.

Yes, the EAA ads are, in addition to being poorly written and scanty on product information, offensively sexist. But are they "pornographic"? I don't think so. (If a scantily clad, smiling woman holding a firearm fits your definition of pornography, you've led a very sheltered life. ;)) I get the impression that since is EAA is just an importer rather than a manufacturer, they're a small company and they probably don't have much of a marketing department. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that EAA's ads are dreamed up by the company president and a couple of his cronies over cocktails at a long business lunch.

I'm planning to buy one of EAA's products because it's a well-made product at a bargain price that fits my needs. I'd rather do business with a more professional outfit, but I'm not going to turn down a good deal just to punish EAA for their bad taste.

Is anyone out there so offended by Dillon's use of women in advertising that you won't buy any Dillon reloading products?
