Dry-firing...safe or not?

FWIW, Kimber's manual states that the slide should not be allowed to slam forward on an empty chamber because it will cause undue wear. They also state that the hammer should not be let down slowly as it damages the sear; rather, they advise dry snapping it.

Yeah. I didn't quite follow the post that said that it was o.k. to let the slide slam forward in an unloaded gun, because the gun was decided to slam forward when fired. Does that make sense to anybody?? What gun slams the slide home on an empty chamber when fired????

Glock doesn't recommend using the slide stop lever to release the slide during chambering a round, due to the weakness of the slide stop lever and due to the fact that the full spring strengh makes for a surer chambering of the round. Has nothing to do with the extractor. On the other hand, you shouldn't drop a round in the chamber, and let the slide slam down on the loaded chamber. That's when you chip extractors.
