Dry fire
It depends, center fire is usually OK, rimfires? I generally don't do so.
For .22 rimfire plastic drywall anchors make excellent "snap caps" the ones for #4 or #6 size screws are perfect.
I just bought a Taurus 94, trigger was atrocious out of the box, very heavy. A few hundred "snaps" and it is now quite tolerable.
My Glock EDC has a superb trigger, thanks to lots of sessions of dry fire.
