WildAlaska said:marijuana is still legal in Alaska for personal consumption
This is an incomplete, incorrect statement. In 1975, the Alaska Supreme Court ruled on the case of Ravin v. State, holding that possession of small quantities of marijuana inside one's home is perfectly legal, supported by privacy laws. Later, the Alaska legislature passed a law that banned any and all quantities of marijuana from being possessed anywhere, including the home. Then, a lower court ruled in a later case, where a man was arrested for possessing less than 1 ounce of marijuana in his home, was arrested, and convicted of the possession. The Appellate court then ruled that the lower court's decision was contrary to a previous Alaska Supreme Court decision. Unfortunately, this is another case of judges legislating from the bench, which messes up everything in the end. Once this is challenged and works its way back into the Alaskan Supreme Court, the Court will have no choice but to enforce the legislature... so don't get all excited.
