Dropped my S&W 629 Classic on the concrete!

Use a flat sanding block/stick with wet/dry automotive paper to remove the majority of the dings. Then, blend wirh Scotchbrite. Using only the Scotchbrite will deform the edges of the cylinder stop cut.

It seems to lock up fine. But I have not fired any ammo since it happened. Now I am second guessing again! I don't know?

Edit: I really would like to work on it myself if I could be confident that it will be safe. Kind of a self punishment for allowing it to be dropped in the first place.

What is the worst that can happen, knowing what the damage looks like?

If the timing's good and it's locking up fine, there's really nothing that could go too wrong. The particular notch locks up with the cylinder stop, correct? Check that carefully for binding or anything like that, as it looks like the concrete did a little custom stippling for you, and it may have carried to the edges of the notch. If everything's in the clear, test fire it with some specials, and I'd think it would be fine. If it were mine, I wouldn't hesitate to try it out as is, provided nothing bent, etc.

That being said, it's your gun, and I make no claims of the condition of the firearm, as I cannot handle it in person, etc. etc.

I would agree with the wet-or-dry, but would use a different approach. I would remove the cylinder and use a wood dowel in the center to clamp it into a vise, with another dowel in one chamber to keep it from turning. Then I would use the emery in the classic "shoe shine" motion to buff the damaged area.

If there is a tiny overhang into the stop notch, a small file should take it out without harming the notch.

OK so ya dropped it and dinged it a little. Happens and it's very irritating when ya do it, stainless is the easiest finish to clean up. OTOH you still HAVE a 629 to ding up! Mine got traded off so I could buy a SUPER- .44mag, the Ruger Redhawk.

Reminds me of the time I dropped my Hi-Point and a bottle of Rolling Rock on the garage floor at the same time. The broken bottle brought tears to my eyes. :D
