Double stack .40 with short trigger reach

Thanks for all the suggestions. Held an M&P in the fun shop the other day and it fit my hand really well. Don't know what kind of back strap it had on it.

Yes.. I would love to get out of Freeport/Rockford area. To the promised land of AZ lol.

I've never seen any M&P come out of the box with anything other than the "Medium" insert on it. Furthermore, most gun shop clerks prefer not to futz with the inserts, because the takedown* / backstrap insert retaining pin is typically hard to remove from a new M&P.

*The M&P instructions call for the pin to be used to deactivate the sear lever before takedown, but virtually any reasonably stiff and slender household object will work for this, so I usually use a cheap ballpoint pen rather than messing with the pin.

An update for anyone who is interested. I ended up getting a police trade in M&P .40. I put on the small back strap and it is a dream.

Most comfortable handgun grip I've ever had and I can properly reach the trigger! Now to shoot it....

I'm particular about trigger reach. Of the 40's I've handled, the M&P and the SR40 felt the best. I'd give a slight nod to the M&P. God Bless

IMHO the full size Sig P226 Enhanced Elite in .40 cal which comes with their Short Reset Trigger (SRT) is a very shootable .40 S&W service pistol. I don't have an SRT on my P226-40 but I can always change that

JDBerg, I think you're a little late to the party, see post #24. :)

Also, I think it's important to differentiate between the Short Reset Trigger and the Short Reach Trigger, as discussed in noonesshowmonkey's last post; I find that many SIG fans tend to conflate the two.

If my wife's experience is any indication, the main problem small-handed shooters have with DA/SA pistols is a lack of leverage for the double-action first shot, and the Short Reset Trigger by itself does not help with this. Some SIGs have both, but one must understand the difference.
