Double stack 1911

STI makes a truckload of them (competition pistols made in Texas Hurr!).

I believe others as well. They sometimes go by the mocker "2011" vs. "1911" so you might google that.

Remington will be making the dble stack paras according to rep I spoke with at Remington. You can still find some paras out there

Springfield Armory has made them, off and on, for over twenty years.
I don't know if they're in the catalog now, or not. Even when they weren't a regular catalog item, you could get them through the Custom Shop.

I love mine

Bought myself a STI Match Master 9mm 2011 for Christmas. My shooting buddy swears by his Para; and I agree, his is an excellent pistol. However, STI builds awfully nice handguns; and the Match Master is a whole different animal from the usual handgun, including most STI's and Para's. I'd like to buy another double stack STI (2011), not another race gun, but Christmas is far, far away.

Keep us updated when you choose one and purchase it Jak300gt.

I've always had a hankering for a double stack 1911 platform so I'd be interested to know what you think of what you choose when you 'pull the trigger' so to speak.

Caspian's frame is only a "stack and a half" in calibers other than 9mm/.38 Super.
Unlike other hi-cap "1911" frames, Caspian's was designed around the .38 Super cartridge, so the internal dimensions of the magwell won't allow the same capacity of larger rounds as a Para, STI, Springfield, etc.
I think it will hold only ten rounds of .45.

I have a double stack Rock Island Armory(Armscor) 22TCM/9mm combo. Only 2 gripes about mine:

1) the factory grips suck.

2) the parkerized finish leaves a lot to be desired.

It runs like a champ and eats anything in 9mm/9mm+p I've thrown at it. It's a series 70 with para/clark ramped barrels. Has an adjustable rear sight. Holds 17+1. Very good shooting gun. Lots of bang for the buck with Armscor.

For me it is Para Ordnance all the way. They recently relocated to the states so you should start seeing more of them out there. Be warned, their double stack does feel quite a bit different from a single stack despite what they say. It almost feels like an oversized M9.

The Para brand has disappeared.
They were merged with Remington, and I think all the pistols are going to be branded Remington, going forward.
Last I heard, they were still trying to decide if Para's range of hi-caps would be reintroduced as Remingtons.

Oh man that sucks :( I really loved that brand. Glad I still have mine though, I won't be selling it now that I know this.

Para will be rebranded but Remington will be keeping the high caps according to the rep I spoke to at Remington. Sounded like there will be multiple lines and they were sorting out which will be the higher quality line vs the economy line.
