looking for gunsmith that could build a double rifle from a spanish shotgun, years past my son got a 410 shotgun as a gift, he doesn't use it any more, so we thought of a double rifle. Thinking outloud 45-70, 444 marlin or 454 casull.

I will deal with the proyect

just asking never mind, I have use it with 45 colt and is working, I have killed several wild hogs with it. Watson I have a LARGE battery of rifles and the money to deal with them, I'm an amateur gunsmith too (as a hobbie)but I don't have the time to deal with this proyect have a lot of work at my farms and real estate bussiness

I wonder if it's a matter of turning down a rifled barrel (blank) such that it'll fit inside a shotgun barrel and then soldering it in place. It would be akin to relining a shot out barrel.

Thinking out loud you could always buy a 45/70 and bring the 410 with you. After all you would have to load them both correct. I have the perfect arm buster 45/70 if interested…

I would never do it but last checked a 45/70 round COULD fit or a 45 standard... in a 410… I am NO gunsmith And therefore would never try it!!! NEVER.

Sorry, Divino, I don't know of an Easy Button to find somebody to convert a shotgun to rifle.

Converting a .410 to rifle would probably call for monoblocing it, no room to line. Cut the barrels off just ahead of the lumps, ream out the chamber area, turn two blanks with shanks to go in the monobloc held by thread or solder, and taper them out to a pleasing profile. Then solder in the ribs. Then set the sights in the top rib. Then shoot, desolder, tweak to regulate, and repeat.

back in the late 70's, a friend of mine and I sleeved a stevens double barrel 20 ga. on one side with a 44 rifle blank from numrich arms. we chambered it for .44 mag. the extracter had to be welded up,the firing pin hole bushed, and rifle sights were added to the rib. They had to be adjusted way to the left to get the point of aim correct. It's kinda neat in the fact that the bores are so different from side to side. I think the regulating of the barrels would really be a pain if you went to a double rifle set up. In hindsite, I really wish we had chambered to 44 spl., as thats all I shoot out of it,and I wouldn't sell it without demilling on account of the safety factor.just my thoughts and experience. mike

Mega Twin & Watson good ideas, I think that in the past they offer barrels that fits inside the shotgun barrel (inserts), I don't recall which company was offering them

double rifle:

Sir:
The first thing that crossed my mind was sleeving the shotgun bbls.
Why wouldn't that work? If very careful machining was done for the inserts and soldering was done why couldn't sleeving for a medium pressure cartridge be O.K?
I'm just asking - I can visualize it? I would prefer an action with a round pin and good lock-up system. Extraction shouldn't be too difficult but lots of welding work?

Harry, I'm thinking a lot in this proyect, perhaps I will be almost 2 more weeks at home recovering of a sigmoid colon resection, so I have enough time to do my thinkings or really began the challenge with the help of my son

just found who sells the inserts, is located in Alaska, MCA Sports/Ace Bullet Company, unfortunally the inserts for 410 are limited to 22 calibers, will still be looking how to buiild the double rifle

I know that EAA offers a 12 gauge O/U with 45/70 inserts. This is an interesting idea. I personally have an old stevens single shot shotgun that has been rebarreled to .218 Bee . The previous owner did this himself and did it right. The thing shoot great, but I would have rather bougth a new Rossi or NEF instead of trying to convert an old stevens.

Jim thanks, just order it, it will be of great help, I had been day dreaming, I have several use barrels from 22lr, 7mm mauser, 270 win, 30-06 & 8mm mauser at least 2 of each and from the same type of actions depending the caliber, so maybe I could began to work something out

Universal Frost, thanks, I know I could get single action rifles very cheap or any over and under combo rifle, but trying to build something different is what makes it interesting

sigmoid

Sir:
I have irritable bowel syndrome and it's my sigmoid area that bothers me most.
I wish you a speedy recovery!

"...spanish shotgun...410 shotgun..." Forget it. The gun won't handle large bore CF pressures. In any case, it'd cost a ton of money.
