The 22 is the best gun to learn to shoot on both pistol and long guns. (I guess a 17HMR would be good to but the ammo is more money).
 
One reason why I'm trading my Sig for a Glock is to simplify the controls. My friend and I recently started informal IDPA matches and she has a LOT of trouble with the hammer, decocker, slide release and mag button. Plus it holds 14 rounds of 45 vs 8 in the Sig, so less reloads.

We all have our skillsets. I can't figure out math to save my life, and she still can't master a 5-speed. I'm mechanically oriented, she's better at finances.:p
