Don't know what to buy next.

To me, a handgun is a very personal choice and if I were in your shoes, I would be going to a range that has rentals and trying out a few different types of handguns out.
Rent a 1911, a couple different revolves and maybe a Glock or other striker fired pistol. From there you can get some idea what feels best to you and refine your search from there.
 
I have 1911s, XD's, snubbie 38s, and 4" .357s, but the most fun gun I've bought in a long time is the Bond Arms .410/.45 Colt derringer.

Practical? Not really, Good defensive gun? Not compared to the others. Good for hunting? Not unless you're within a few feet. A blast to shoot? HECK YES!!!
there's something about having a double barrel shotgun in your pocket!
 
After seeing all of the 40 S&W available at Walmart today, I'd say buy something in .40 that holds at least 15 rounds.
