Lynx is protected here, not bobcat. I'm pretty sure that's true through out the lower 48.
The bobcat is a pretty robust species that can survive in a variety of habitats. The lynx pretty much gets pushed to the fringe habitats by the bobcats and so has a pretty limited range, mostly high mountain and semi arctic iirc.
