Done went and done it

We've been wanting a decent 300 win mag and really wanted a Rem 5r milspec. Settled for a Savage 110 semi bull barrel 22 inches even though we wanted the 24 inch A 1.9 lb trigger rested in a glass bedded HS precision stock. Topped it off with a 20 moa Nightcorce rail and a 4x14x56 Nightforce scope. Can't wait to get some dies in hand so husband can go send some down range.

I shoot the Amax as I have a good supply of them, but Hornady makes the ELD in .30 caliber 208 also. My 300WM loves them behind a lighter charge of H-1000. Does exceptional from 100yards to as far as I can shoot them (1000 yards) It is a paper puncher only though. No deer hunting with this 15lb pig.

Yeah, this 300 win mag is way too heavy to hunt with doing any walking. It weighs more than his 338 Rem ultra mag Sendero. He's wondering about the 22 inch barrel and loss of velocity but from what we've googled it shouldn't be but about a 90 fps loss in velocity. Will have to chronograph some reloads when dies get here. I was asking about the eld because Acadamy sports told us Hornady is going to discontinue it. The 178 Amax is my 308 paper puncher so I was a little disappointed.

Academy was correct the Amax bullet is discontinued. I bought as many as I could find when I heard that. My 300 has a 24" barrel and is 2748fps on a lighter load. I could push the bullet faster but it's scary accurate and saves my brass and barrel.

We loaded up some 190 accubonds under H1000 and it beat the crap out of my husbands shoulder but is driving tacks. After 20 rounds he was black and blue. time for a little b,,,Stard muzzle brake.

I was going to get the 178 and 209 grain Amax. They had one box of each left. Said when those were sold the ELD would be coming in its place. I hate that because the 308 and 300 win mag love these for punching paper and somewhat inexpensive. I didn't buy last boxes since I'm going to have to start figuring out loads again. I just ordered the Sierra match kings again.

From what I have seen and heard all of Hornady Amax bullets have been discontinued. In favor of the ELD type of bullets. From what my long range shooting friends are saying is if you have a Amax load worked up just get the ELD bullet of the same weight and load it the same and they are one in the same...It's the ELD-X bullets that have different weights in all the calibers.

That's all well and good, but what about loads like the 155gr AMAX TAP load? That's a popular duty and defense load for a lot of folks. There isn't even a 155gr ELD bullet as far as I know. If in fact it has been secretly discontinued, my thoughts on the subject would not make it past the profanity filter.

Do you have a link to the press release that says ALL A-max bullets to be discontinued ? . Hornady was quite animate that the lower BC a-max bullets were not having the same tip melting issues as the higher BC bullets . If I recall they said any A-max with a BC under .550 does not have the issue .

Why change what ain't broke . 178gr should be fine , 208gr would need to be replaced . It's likely most of the current long range match bullets being used today will be replaced .
