Does the .45ACP provide a mental edge?

Yes... as does .45 Colt, .41 magnum, .44 magnum, 10mm (Norma), .475 Linebaugh, .50AE, (your favorite here), and my personal favorite... .45 Super.

ACP on steroids...

7th - what evidence is there that BGs act differently based on weapons pointed at them.
Specifically that BGs know that a cocked and locked 1911 means more than a Glock 23 or
Sig 232 pointed at them?

What's the citation?

I didn't read all the responses and this probably has been said already. But training
and give's one the mental edge not any particual gun or caliber.

The .45 ACP does give me a mental edge. I don't think it does a thing for a BG, but it gives me a "stand and fight" mindset vs. a "run screaming like a schoolgirl" mindset.

Yeah, I guess until I can get new batteries
for my Buck Rodgers' ray gun, my M30 .45
will just have to suffice.

No question that the .45 has an edge over it's competition. Be carefull not to put too much confidence in it's abilities as a handgun round. If it's there, fight your way back to a rifle or shotgun.

For the record, the Great Yogi once said: "90% of the game is half mental". In as much as I have eluded to the mental advantage the .45ACP affords it's user in terms of proven performance and the asthetics of a handgun with a large hole on one end of it, duty compels me to fully disclose my relationship with this cartridge.

Heretofore, I have had a persistent flinching problem while utilizing this venerable, time-tested cartridge in conjunction with a lightweight framed semi-auto. The full-sized 1911 has never been a problem ffor me in this area.

I have resolved to master the .45ACP while using a polymer or aluminum frame weapon this summer. My intentions are to become combat-proficient at seven yards and fifteen yards respectively. Mastery in this instance will be defined as maintaining a maixum grouping of 3" while shooting from various postions and distances with either hand.

Certainly, there is no be all, end all handgun solution for defense of one's self or one's domicile. That having been said, my ability to adequately employ the .45ACP load consistently and frequently in stress-fire training scenarios will provide me with a sufficient level of confidence should the need present itself.
