Does it matter if we vote?

Apple,
Thanks! I needed that! :D
Surcease from guilt, fear, insominia, indigestion, and hand-wringing.

Jeez, this election *IS* a gut-wrencher.
(And let's not argue about what *IS* is! :D )

Either you believe in the Second Amendment or you don't.
Stick it to 'em! RKBA!

Dennis,
By golly, I finally disagree with you on something! :D I think the EC is one of the most brilliant compromises ever concieved at the Constitutional Convention! Simply Awesome idea. We do not have a popularly elected president. There is a reason for that. We also should abolish the 17th amendment.
In our Federalist system, states also have authority. The 17th amendment gave too much power to the Federal Government, and took much from the states. Ridding ourselves of the EC would make the Federal Government all-powerful, and the states too weak to fight them off. We must continue to have the 3 divisions of power: People-States-National gov. We also must have our 3 branches: Executive, Judicial, and Legislative. The EC is a great idea, and gives even tiny states some say. We would have never had a constitution without the EC, and even Thomas Jefferson (the father of the Libertarian philosophy if you ask me) saw the wisdom in the EC. States' rights must be preserved. The EC is the only remaining instrument to do that.

Well, KJ, that's a good argument. Let me ponder that a while. Who knows you might change my mind. But until then, I'm darned glad we can agree to disagree agreeably. ;)

EC is another provision in our system of checks and balances. The Founding Fathers saw it as a way to maintain emphasis on the states, prevents domination by more populous states, and most important (IMNSHO) it serves as a fire break in the case of massive voter fraud. Let's say massive fraud breaks out in say California. Without the EC massive fraud out there will likely impact the national vote. With EC massive fraud in say California has its effect limited to only California.

Those dead, European white guys had it right again. Leave the EC alone.

If you don't vote, you won't care about the issues

If you don't care about the issues, you won't call/write/meet the policy makers to let them hear your views

If the policy makers don't hear your views, they won't let their views be affected by their constituents' views

If they don't let their views to be affected, they will write and pass laws that have support from a small vocal group

You will become despondent and decide to not vote any more
