Everything here is sword!
Sword-baseball bat, sword-rifle,
sword-pineapple, sword-sword sharpener,
sword-pie....

in Idaho you can purchase an automatic knife with a CWL (concealed weapons license) but you have to show it before they will let you even look at it. heck in the mall at chirstmas time here they sell them in little kiosks but they arent well made like a benchmade or anything.

Jericho, that was one of the things I noticed about auto knives: most are absolute junk, and the ones with any kind of quality are expensive as all get-out...

Anyone remember the "kit swithc-blades" from the 80's? I had a BUNCH of them in high school. Quit buying them when I realized I could snap the blades bare-handed...

Carried a butterfly in the Nav: was REALLY good for dealing with the windbirds*. Would never have thought of having it on me away from the ship though...

*Wind speed and direction indicator. Propeller-lookin' things WAAYY up the mast. When replacing one after maintainence, you have to hang on with one hand, while cutting a bag off the connection point. One-handed opening was VERY nice at that point...

Garand pointed something out that I've often wondered --- where is the logic allowing a person to carry a hand cannon but not a 4" knife? Same is true with a blackjack, brass knuckles, etc.

The only way I can rationalize it is the following:

1> Whereas guns can be offensive and defensive, I think knives etc. are viewed as strictly offensive.

2> Knives etc. are viewed as the weapon of choice by thugs.

3> There is no constitutional argument or protection for knives etc unlike for guns.

Weird but true.

Personally, I think any law abiding citizen or non-violent ex-felon should be able to carry any gun or hand to hand weapon of his chosing without a license. Barring that, we're not truly free. IF, as we have now, the law allows me to carry a gun with the proper license, then it should certainly encompass a knife or whatever.

heh... her in WI, carrying a concealed gun is a class A misdemenor: not more than 9 months in jail, $100K in fines, or both. Carrying a knife deemed a weapon? That's a felony...
