Does a 3/8" thick knife have better stopping power than a 1/4" knife?

Hello Everyone,

For what it is worth, I did some cutting tests recently on both raw beef and cardboard with my custom John Greco MST (5 inch blade x 1/4 inch in 5160 tool steel), a John Greco Companion (5 inch blade x 1/4 inch in A-2) and my Bud Nealy Pesh Kabz (5 inch blade x 3/8 of an inch in ATS-34). The MST exhibited far superior cutting ability in both knives in both media. The Companion was second while the expensive Nealy in the popular ATS-34 was rather disappointing.

Although I realize there are many variables involved, the difference was pronounced enough for me to do some research into the nuances of knive design. As a result, 5160 tool steel and 1/4 inch thickness are both BIG on my list. ATS-34 is off the list completely.
