Do you pay the msrp on firearms

If you want something SPECIAL do you pay the price or put it on the short list of MUST HAVE.Even if it is now in production . I paid a premium for my SEECAMP last year. How about you.

The "S" in MSRP is the suggested retail price! I have always been able to acquire whatever I wanted for less than retail through diligent searching. If did however pay too much for a gun, I wouldn't come here and brag about it!

Retail is for suckers, as the saying goes.

Unless it is covered in gold inlay and a one of a kind, you can always find something discounted or gently used, usually LNIB.

It may take some time to find what you want, but the time searching is where you get your savings.

When I decided to buy the SEECAMP timing was there. KIDS PAID .Gave them all of my kel-tec's :D I like the feel of STEEL.

Does anyone?

Even the couple of shops around here with a reputation for obscenely high prices still come in below MSRP (although they do come in just below).

Depends - guns like a Seecamp, especially the 380 will command, AND GET, above MSRP from those who want one and want it now - since there is a two year waiting period just to get an order placed, that's called supply and demand. If you're a collector and a certain gun has the provenance you seek and it fits in your collection, then you will pay what YOU feel it is worth.

Prices are relative to you and you alone - I would have no issue paying for a Perazzi, (if I win the lottery), but I have no use for me personally to pay the same price for a rifle in the same magnitude

YMMV

Not aware that the shops I frequent ever have anything priced near MSRP. It's kinda like the price sticker on a new car - interesting but of little value.

I never see firearms at MSRP. Seems every shop has its own policies and pricing. Sometimes Gouger Mt is lower than the Mom and Pop (but not often). I try to shop price but usually the items I want aren't available in too many shops.

Like autos, new handguns rarely go for MSRP. However, also like autos, sometimes there is hot model that goes at MSRP or sometimes even higher. as Oneounceload mentioned, the Seecamp .380 is in that category, though this may change in the future with added competition from Ruger and Sig. BTW, the Ruger LCPs were very hard to find for a long time and it was common for sellers to sell above MSRP. I wouldn't pay it, but some did.

Nope. Not to say I haven't paid more than I should (like that $900 I paid for a Smith & Wesson 686SSR a couple of years ago) a time or two, but even that was at least a hundred bucks below MSRP.

Not no but h%#* no,In the last several years i have been very lucky to get great deals on guns, even when (O) got in office.Every thing i have found local at overly inflated prices,i have been able to find online for 200-300 less and that includes shipping and transfer.i wouldn't pay these bozo's a plug nickle for a confederate 2 dollar bill.

"Do you pay the msrp on firearms?"

Another "never" comment. No matter how badly it piques my interest.

Depends on the gun.

I do believe I would pay MSRP for a 7.5" Ruger Super Redhawk chambered in 480 Ruger with a 5 shot cylinder.

How many of us have purchased a gun and immediately delivered it to a gunsmith for modifications that applied a premium over of 25%, 35% or even 100% added onto the purchase price?

Certain cars have commanded a premium over MSRP.

Depends on how badly I want it. And how unrealistic the manufacturer's marketing department is.

My gun dealer is a gunsmith shop. He typically quotes me about 20% below MSRP on a new firearm. I do not dicker with him. I want him to stay in business. He takes great care of any problems that surface with the purchase, and has given great service on firearms, even the ones I originally did not buy from him. I trust him. I really want him to remain in business, so I'l give him his asking price. The time searching I leave to him and go to the range a enjoy a shoot.

I've made it a point to simply not want such things. With rare exceptions, they'll eventually catch up and the price will drop to MSRP then below.

I wasn't one of those that paid double the MSRP for a 1979 RX-7. Neither will I participate in the firearms equivalent or buy tickets from a scalper, etc.

But I'd suppose most here would understand fully why one would do so - it's a practice about as old as capitalism. The practice of buying something in short supply at retail to turn around and profit from the impatient is common and, if anyone had forgotten this, the recent flood of "ammo threads" should have served as a none too subtle reminder.

Most manufacturers seem to take a relatively benign view of such things. The Milt Sparks group, however, seems to take a distinctly dim view of such shenanigans and has taken measures to curtail the practice.

As I understand it, it's "anti-capitalist" to wish that someone would discourage the practice but it's free market capitalism at its finest when the manufacturer decides to intervene on his own. Assuming they have much success, you'll wait longer for a Milt Sparks but pay the "right" price. With Seecamp you have the option of paying the scalper. In both cases you have the option to go elsewhere.

I guess I do not fit in this thread as special to me is simply routine production to most... I do not pay MSRP... I ask the local shop to come as close to an online price as possible and then I buy. Basically with the transfer fee factored into the online price, I come in within 15-30 bucks buying local.

No, I don't pay MSRP on any gun. If a gun has an MSRP, then there are plenty of them out there to buy - I'll shop for the deal or a used one.
