Do you like to buy duplicates/backups or do you like to diversify?

I just sold off most of my .30-06 rifles down to just one now. I realized I needed to thin down when I looked in my safe and I had six and I'd only ever shot one. I had four Winchester M70 classics (3 FWT, 1 sporter), a JC Higgins FN Mauser, and a Stevens 200. I kept one M70 FWT and rebarreled the sporter to .338-06, and sold the rest off.

I still own three .223's, two each .204 Ruger, .243 Win, .250 Savage, .30-30 Win, .338-06, and .35 Whelen rifles.

I don't have any exact duplicates, but redundancy abounds. I've got 3 ARs and a mini and while they're all different setups there's plenty of overlap in capability and just for good measure there's a Garand, a M1A and a M1 Carbine in my safe.

I have no time for duplicates, I won't own similar platforms with similar cartridges. So not only is the AR out but I wouldn't get a Mini either.

tahunua001, thanks for the pics! Very, very nice. My 9mmAR is pretty much run-of-the-mill. It is a RR upper on an Aero lower with a Spikes magwell adapter. It is a lot of fun, and my girls really enjoy shooting it as well. I have commercial mags and modified Uzi mags for it.

Back to the thread: I have a couple of other ARs which are rigged out pretty similar. Plus a number of FAL which are duplicates.

I ended up with duplicate M57s:

I also have a small Garand collection.

I found it pretty convenient to have some duplicate rifles cut from the same reamer as back up rifle or for volume PD shooting.

I have always liked to have at least two guns that shoot the calibers I like. Several years ago I tried to limit my calibers to a few, .22,.9mm, 38/357, 45Colt/45acp, .44mag/spec in handguns and .22, .223, 30/30 and .308 in rifles. I've had others over the years but mostly I have stayed with these calibers.

As a result I have tried to find a rifle and handgun in each of the handgun calibers and at least two rifles in .223, 30/30 and .308. Where possible in the rifles, I like a semi-auto and a bolt gun, but that isn't possible with the 30/30 and since my .308's are for hunting I chose bolt guns. Never been an AR fan. I would rather have a lever gun than an AR. Besides I don't have to worry when AR and MIA prices spike because of ridiculous legislation. My only semi's are a Mini-14 and a 10/22. So I guess to answer your question, I am more of a duplicate guy, or maybe I'm diverse since I like a handgun and rifle in the same calibers where possible. You decide:D. . . . . .

Duplicates are usually more ideal, but diversifying is also good.

If you have, say 2 AR15's or 2 Glocks, or 2 Mosin Nagants, you can have duplicates but also have different calibers (not the M/N). Different barrel lenghts, gas systems, grips, stocks, sights, etc.

Now if you want to strictly diversify i.e. AR15 and Mini14, or Glock and M&P, you will not be able to share magazines, accesories, and even ammo which is a big downside IMO.

Diversity is good since it covers more bases.

If I had something I really liked, I would consider purchasing a duplicate or a different configuration.

I have a nice sporting Ithaca 37, but I'd really love a riot version too.
