Do you keep the guns in your safe loaded (assuming you have a safe with guns in it)

My MAC-10, Micro UZI, TEC-9, G-26 & 30, P-99, P7M8 & USP 40 (all but the one under my pillow) are all loaded ready for the poor soul that comes near my S**T.

Carry pistols get a break at home unless they're still on my person. House gun is a .357 that is always loaded whether it's in the safe or behind the bedroom nightstand. Shotgun stays in gunsafe unloaded but with five rounds of 00 buck in the on board shell carrier.

Every single gun I own..., whether in the safe, in my bedroom, in the computer room, the living room, the basement..., every single gun is loaded.

That way, I can never say "I thought it was unloaded", if I blow away a light switch, a picture on the wall, my TV, or whatever I'm "dry-firing" at.

Fud,

All sidearms in the safe are unloaded (the safe's location and the time to unlock it are the principal reasons), however the two "duty" handguns (currently an H&K USP .45 Tactical and a Ruger GP100) are loaded and readily available. Please note that there are no longer children in our home.

Regards.

If I had a safe, and there were guns in the safe, there would be loaded magazines conveniently placed for ready access. :) Of course, there's always the gun that isn't in the safe, if I had one of those, it would be loaded. :)

The gun vault in my bedroom contains my loaded Hi Power. The "big" safe doesn't contain any loaded guns, but speed loaders and mags are ready to go. Interesting topic to ponder, I'll definitely need to re-evaluate the set up.

Actually, I think that having fully loaded guns in your main safe isn't that good of an idea, how long does it take to slap a magazine into a pistol and rack the slide?

Great thread!!!! Guess who will be loading one of his guns in the safe!

This reminds me of the movie "Reindeer Games"
Dennis Farina plays a casino boss who gets held up to be robbed. In his hidden office safe, he had loaded subguns. When the bad guys forced him to open it---- .
Lots of bullets.

Depends upon how close the goblin is to you at the time.

I now have two safes, metal storage units actually. One will be for longer term storage, the other for firearms I am currently shooting. In the second unit I plan to keep at least one or two firearms ready for use. But the main defense gun is kept in the house, ready for action when I am home, locked with ammunition stored separately when I am gone.

Frosty

Good topic FUD, you raise an interesting idea; that an intruder may be at your safe someday and the guns are either loaded or not. Opening my safe and looking in you'd see there are several guns, and yes, there is a loaded gun in there, but you wouldn't know which one it was, would you?

My Benelli M1 with SureFire forend is ready to go (six rounds of Federal Tac 00, with three more 00 and three slugs on the sidesaddle).

I keep two 30-round mags loaded for the AR15s. One of these lives in my M4 with SureFire forend (not chambered).

My regular carry guns (Les Baer Concept IX and Kel-Tec P32) are always loaded.

My wife's Beretta is always loaded.

I wish I could keep them more accessible but I have kids....

Glad to see I'm not alone. I have a 45 auto fully loaded and one in the chamber sitting in the safe. Being left handed it works perfectly. As I step back and swing the door open with my right hand I can reach in and grab the 45 with my left hand all in one motion.

Am I being paranoid, I don't think so. If my name is going to be in the paper, I want to be the one that survived.

I keep a loaded Glock 19 in a handgun safe by my bed. When I go to bed I take it out and lay it on the nite stand where the nite sights send out a signal saying "here I am". I keep two revolvers loaded on a shelf in my long gun safe. Often my 12 year old grandson is with me when I open the safe and I will pick up one of the revolvers, flip the cylinder open and say "you see they are always loaded". He has gotten the message and anytime I hand him a gun the first thing he does is inspect the chamber.
