Do You Have To Pay Income Taxes?

I don't think we should have to pay income taxes! Give it a try and let us know how things turn out. :D

Do you have to pay?

No, of course not.

its been tried and failed. Gordon kahl was a kind of anti-hero here in the dakoats for his stance on taxes. everybody thought he was right but went about it the wrong way.

Wesley Snipes doesn't think so. ;)

The opening question is, however, phrased improperly. I think the question, "Is the Federal Income Tax Legal" might provoke a more substantive discussion.

Good point, Rich. Duress and coertion, I guess.Voluntary compliance at the barrel of a gun.

Yes, you must pay your income tax... ole SAM must have a few of your hard earned cookies, or he starves. "Feed me Seymore"

Do you think you own property? Skip paying the tax and find out.
Don't play games with SAM he doesn't play well with others and nither do his nephews in our towns. Organized crime is the IRS and you better pay the protection fees.

Be a good citizen , render unto SAM what is his.

Over the years I have known two guys that tried not paying income tax. Both were in a mess for years and one still is I think.
Legal or not your gonna pay one way or another.
Seems much easier to pay the tax to me.

Well, I didn't pay any income taxes this year. Now, I should clarify that -- I didn't have any income, either. I'm living on savings. Being retired (and not yet collecting on my vested pension plans) made it seem superfluous. Than again, what do I know? I'll probably be getting a letter from the IRS wanting to know why I didn't file a return this year. Trust me, I still pay dearly for property taxes, sales taxes, utility taxes, etc. No way around them.

Skeeter:

You have to file every year, even if you make zero income. Make sure you file one, or if you failed to, make certain to get it handled by a tax attorney that could do it and settle the fine for not filing.

The reason is, they can put a lien on your homesteaded property, and once that is done you have a problem to do such things as refinance, sell the home, etc.

The fact you don't file a return afterone filing for so many years, is what would most probably spur an audit.

"Watch the video,"

Okay, that was quick. (3 cheers for Verizon Fios)

"you might learn something."

Nope, not much new there. Looks like I was a libertarian about 20+ years before Mr. Russo. I guess he was too busy making movies in Hollywood and stuff.

Drinking beer, watching football and driving a new SUV, is more important than
working to keep our liberties intact, for most people.

Voting, is the least of the things we can do to maintain or rights and freedoms.

I'm certainly willing to concede that he seems to have a point. However, I also know that if we don't pay, there is more trouble coming than either of us is willing to accept.

I would be thrilled to see somebody sue and have the money and the ability to take it all the way to the Supreme Court. But it isn't me.

However, go to www.fairtax.org and get involved. If you can't challenge the law in court, work to get the bloody thing revoked altogether.

Ain't no law

Title 26 and 27 of the tax code says nothing about income being taxable. The only place it is mentioned is on the form line that says taxable income. But, unfortunately they will put you on TV, kick in your door, lien every thing and save it for when you are exposing them. Actually, you commit perjury every time you file. IF we stopped paying, the govt wouldn't last 3 mos. The tax was during war, it was voluntary, and congress never ratified it. From "Freedom to Fascism" by Russo is a must see.

Scary stuff...

Unfortunately that statement about drinking beer, watching football, and driving SUVs is a sad and true remark. Welcome to America land of the complacent, home of the indifferent... :( Not exactly a nation that is really holding up to its highest standards these days. The People have just keep allowing illegal siezures of power. The idea that the property you own is your property is ridiculous, obviously not when there's always a tax on it. Now where have I heard the phrase taxation without representation?

Aren't the income tax laws passed by Congress, not to mention the legislatures of the various states, plus a few other jurisdictions as well. Yet we probably aren't paying enough taxes as it is. At least the government is running a huge deficit, if you weren't aware of it. All government income, practically, comes from taxes, mostly income taxes, both personal and corporate. Reagan's theory was that if taxes were reduced then spending would have to be reduced. Well, it wasn't.

Of course, we haven't always had income taxes and will not necessarily always have them either. But we will certainly have taxes, at least if we want government. Government isn't doing a very good job at some of the things we have government for, so maybe we ought to try getting along without it for a while, just as an experiment, you understand.

You will also remember that we did not always have the federal government either. I mean under the constitution, that is. Before that we had the confederation (the president under the articles of confederation was Robert E. Lee's father). But it didn't work out very well and at the time, they were willing to give something else a go.

Nowadays you might get the idea that the rich don't pay taxes. That may or may not be true but at one time, in some places, only the rich paid taxes. For that dubious privilege they generally felt like they had a right to run things and they generally did. Question: how are things different now?
