I hate giving up guns because once I buy them I want to keep them. However, I have been known to give ammo for a gift. :D

My parents gave me their .22 rifles they each had as kids when I turned 14. Dad's was a Remington 550 autoloader, and Mom's was a Stevens (or was it a Springfield) Model 10 (12?) single shot. Unfortunately, I destroyed both of them by leaving them in the trunk of my car over the winter when I was living in a no-guns apartment, the back window leaked and soaked the cases they were in. I was sick to my stomach for a long time...in fact, I still get a sunken feeling in my gut when I think about it. :( I found a replacement 550, but its a later version, but have never seen another one like my Mom's.

I have also been the beneficiary of a generous brother-in-law. :) I have been given a Ruger Blackhawk in .30 Carbine, and a Jager AP-74 .22 autoloader (looks like a M-16). I haven't bought him any guns, but I do buy him ammo, accessories, and give him all of my pre-read gun magazines.
