Do you give friends/family guns for gifts?

I was just curious as to how many members might present their friends/family with guns as gifts for their birthday, Christmas or whatever. My girlfriend's 21st birthday is comin' up in November -- and I am getting excited as I look forward to giving her her first gun.

What about ya'll??

I have probably gifted at least 70% of my adult semi-immediate family and several close friends with guns, including my first ex-wife's husband, with whom I often attend gunshows. They are my favorite gift for people I trust!

paranoia is entirely acceptable when they actually are out to get You!

given everyone from the wife, friends, coworkers, BOSS, and neice guns as gifts.
i try to keep the wife from doing alot of shooting with some of my toys , as she then wants one for herself.
already has cost me an ar, g19 &26, as well as a beretta 21a (.22) and a real nice detictive spc.
good thing my penis is permanently attached

Gave my father a shotgun for Christmas a couple of years ago.

Gave my best friend an SKS for his birthday some years ago.

His daughter will be getting a .22 from me on her 5th birthday.

A number of my guns are called out in my will to be distributed among friends who have expressed more than passing interest in them. My friend Dave (if I croak, of course) will get my Radom 9mm.

Chances are he knows how to use it.

Yes, I do give guns. A gift of a weapon means that you trust the recipient's judgement and you trust the recipient with your life.

Give, heck! I use to make Kentucky rifles for my kin to remind them where we came from.

I've never given anyone a firearm as a gift unless you count my wife who already owns everything that I own but I did receive a firearm as a gift last Christmas from my wife's uncle. FUD.

Absolutely. When it comes to B-day & X-mas presents, a firearm of some sort is always at the top of the list. Long standing tradition in our family.

I distribute more guns than Smith and Wesson. especially after the "Agreement". Just about every female member of the family has a 10/22 and a deer rifle from me. I've given my best friend 6 long guns over the years. I also give ammo as stocking stuffers, and reload for just about everybody.

Yes, regularly. In fact I am building a custom snbby Smith 629 for a doctor friend of mine as a retirement gift. Terri and I are also doing our Christmas shopping right now...... :)

Oleg, I like your response.

I was promised a Shortycicle and I want a Shortycicle!

Absolutely!
I got married two years ago, and had bought an ANIB S&W M63 just a month prior to the big day.
I sent the revolver to S&W, asked for a rush job on their LaserSmithing, and had a rose put on the sideplate (Rose is also her middle name), scroll motif on the barrel, frame and cylinder, and by special request had the wedding date engraved in scroll between the crane screw and the middle screw.

I shipped the gun from the Midwest two weeks prior to the wedding, and I got it back 4 days before the wedding.
No extra charge for the rush job, no extra charge for the date engraving (which is not a standard option).

You can say what you want about the "agreement" and I will likely concur; but you do gotta admit that S&W's customer service is (or at least, was) excellent.

So, yes, I give guns as gifts.
One thing that has been implied, but not explicitly detailed here is that those of us that give guns as gifts are only doing so to responsible adults whom we have every confidence will be responsible with the gun.

(Just didn't want some anti-freedom lurker to get the idea we give them out like christmas fruitcake.)

Yep, gave my brother a mini-14 ranch rifle just for the heck of it.

My birthday present from the inlaws was 150 rounds of .45 ACP FMJ, 20 rounds of .45 ACP JHP, eyes and ears, 100 small targets and 20 fullsize torso targets. :D

Present from the father was a Crimson Trace Lasergrip for my 1911. I'll be asking for a Spyderco and a Leatherman this year from the parental units. ;)

Guns as gifts! Absolutely. I'm already working on this year's Christmas present for my husband! Thank goodness he reciprocates! :) Last year he surprised me with a S & W 629 which I had my eye on for quite some time. (Buck season is only 7 weeks away!) We can't wait to give our nephew his first gun!

I like that line. I'll have to remember it.

:D. Here is a recap of my 1999 Chrismas:

Room-mate and really good friend: 300rds of 9mm ammo, holster for said 9mm and a gun cleaning kit (his was old)

Best Friend: 500rds .45, 100rds Silvertip for his NAA .32, pocket holster for same.

Uncle: .22 pistol, over 500rds for said pistol and holster.

Mother: .32 Tomcat with 100rds Silvertip.

To Me from: Best Friend: SKS bayonet, 2 mags (30 rd) for my, not yet obtained, AR-15; a load of .45 brass (I try to reload but haven't yet), an SKS owners manual, stipper clips for same.

Room-mate: A bagful of cleaning patches, another silicon wiping rag, some brass screwdrivers and hammer for gun repairs.

Uncle: A fifth of whiskey (my fav. but expensive brand) and a roll your own kit for ciggs.

Mom: A Western rig for my .45LC

No, we don't give guns or gun assesories in our family or to our friends :D :D :D.

I'd like to, but most of my non-gun owning best friends live in an anti-gun state. They'd have to go through a lot of trouble, and waiting, and more waiting, to get an FID.

I will be giving them copies of Unintended Consequences.

Those friends who do have guns could use a case of ammo more than another gun.
