i was out shooting some blazer brass 180gr .40S&W from my xd40 sub.
i was shooting into an old coal ash bucket full of ice.
the bucket was 1/16" thick and the ice was about 18".

the bullets penetrated 4-6 inches into the ice with zero expansion/fragmentation.

here are 3 i dug out of the ice.

To answer your question, No I don't load any FMJ's in my carry weapons. On a side note, what results were you expecting from the FMJ Blazer's? The picture you've shown is typical of their behavior

I've been considering going with JHP for round 1 followed by a couple FMJ then more JHP. Haven't decided yet.

If I get in a gunfight, I don't need to be wondering which round is coming next. I want all to perform equally. I carry all Corbon DPX in my .40 CCW.

FMJ's are for training or for armored targets

The principle behind JHP ammo is that the bullets, having a soft lead tip and a hollow nose, will enter the body of the target and slow down once inside, expanding and creating a greater wound cavity. Thus, it has a greater stopping power, meaning it is able to disable a target with fewer hits (provided he is not heavily armored) than standard Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) bullets (though FMJ is better for armored targets). JHP bullets usually do not exit a target's body after impact (and do not create exit wounds:barf:)

In 9mm and .380ACP, I always carry JHP ammo. In my NAA Guardian 32ACP, I load the chamber with a JHP round and then load the mag with FMJ. This is for two reasons: 1. prevent rimlock, which is a problem specific to 32ACP ammo 2. penetration - the FMJ should get more penetration than the JHP rounds, theoretically. I say theoretically because I'm not sure the 32ACP JHP rounds have enough velocity out of the muzzle to expand much...?

I do, thats the only round readily available round here. Last I checked for a 9mm HP, its cost was around 1.2$ Per round.

I Personaly carry Federal HST in my .40. But with that being said, I would not want to get shot with any type of bullet. So if all you can afford is FMJ's, then so be it, use them. It's better than nothing at all.

As always, Stay Safe.

When I carry a semi-auto, I always use FMJ. I know that I am in the minority on this but its what i think works best for me.

I carry the Corbon DPX in my XD40 and my PM9. Am looking into the Hornady Critical Defense Ammo once I've read some reviews on it.

I'd only carry fmj if it was the only thing that feed through my gun reliably; and if that was the case I would probably get rid of it and get something that worked properly for self defense. They make hp's for a reason.
