Do they still make Double Barrel Side by Side shotguns?

Do they still make the above said shotguns? I've heard people (friends, gun dealers, etc) say they don't. My dad has always wanted a side by side short double barrel shotgun. But all you ever see in stores now is the over and under long double barrel and then of course the pump and semi auto.

Does anyone out there make them? I know gunsmith companies like Briley can make them but they cost an arm and a leg (like $3000+ )

Do they even make them with Cowboy replicas?

Heck yes they do

Take a look at the Baikals, called Spartans now from Remington:

And CZ has 4 different models:

The Baikals are very inexpensive, and even the CZs are going to be well under $1,000, and some have the traditional external hammer w/ short barrel - ye olde' coach gun. There are others, too. Enjoy!

Like famine said, I'm pretty sure Stoeger makes them and that Big 5 sells that brand. I've seen coach guns in their adds for $220

I just recently purchased a Remington (aka Baikal) Spartan model 210. I was after a gun with modern features (screw-in chokes, shell ejectors, single trigger) for Sporting Clays, but something JUST a little different than what everyone else has. I am very impressed by it. If you'd like PM me with an Email address, I'd be happy to take some close-in pictures of it if your thinking of buying one.

There are a bunch of makers of sxs due to the cowboy action shooting crowd. Gotta have a stagecoach gun for that stuff.
:)

The ruger is a nice looking one and is about half that price (maybe a little more). I have their o/u and it has sure been a good one.

Beretta
Dakota
Weatherby
Marlin
Rizzini
CSMC
Fabbri
Bosis
Holland & Holland
DM Brown
J Purdey
Westley Richards
Merkel
BSA Warwick
AyA
Francotte
WW Greener
Arrieta

Are all current production I believe.

Not all priced in the stratosphere though some are.
There's no shortage. The Marlin Elsie import, Beretta's SxS, Weatherby d'Italia, CSMC's 21 and the occasional Dakota are all stocked by various dealers locally.

I've heard people (friends, gun dealers, etc) say they don't.
My advice would be to keep the friends but find a new dealer.

The Marlin Elsie looks pretty nice and manages to insinuate itself neatly between CZ and Ruger price-wise.

Man!

I love this site! That is the weirdest thing! I swear to you all I was just getting on here to ask if someone made a no frills (engraving) double barrel side-by-side. Anyways, does ruger make anything other than the expensive gold label? I like the look of that Remington and the Stoeger.

Oooh, man, I want one of those Savage 411s or Rem/Spartan (they're both Baikal guns), in 20 ga for my poor man's quail, pheasant, & dove gun. I grew up watching Westerns so I love the side by sides, as compared to an O/U, which I associate in my mind with gun club gun snobs, for better or worse.

That is another nice one.

Good post digger. All of you guys have made my day. I have been wondering about this for a while and I get on here and there it is. One thing I have been wondering though is: has anybody ever shot both barrels on a 12 guage sXs?(not slugs, just bird and buckshot)

has anybody ever shot both barrels on a 12 guage sXs?

Does unintentionally count?

Idle speculation on my part: The CZ Ringneck is selling like gangbusters around here. If it hangs together, and it appears it will, I wonder if a pile of 'em showing up on the used market will reinvigorate the value end of the market?

Anything that puts more SxSs in circulation is OK by me.

Jart

do you know, what are the principal differences between the Durango & the Ringneck, from CZ?

also, do tell us the story of the double-discharge - were you flat on your back afterward?

Edit - oh nevermind - the durango is a short barrelled gun (20"), primarily for CAS games, but the ringneck & bobwhite are for hunting upland birds - and these two models, in their 28 gauge versions, are built on a mini 28 ga special frame for optimum balance.

Question: Would you guys choose 28 guage or 20 guage for an all-day-shooting upland bird gun?
