Do I really need a $500 .380?

Perhaps the P238 and the other Star DK homages are more fun to shoot?

Yep. Quite accurate with easy recoil, at least as judged by our P238. I often hear it said that the LCP should be carried a lot and shot a little, and after shooting borrowed examples I agree, but the P238 is a pistol you can shoot for a while and still enjoy. It is, of course, up to the individual whether that is an advantage worth the difference in price.

My Ruger LCP has been a great little gun. I carry it when it's not practical to carry my Glock 27, loaded with Hornady Critical Defense 90 grain FTX.

It has been a reliable pocket gun so far but I have only sent about 500 rounds down the pipe of it ...

I personally believe that the LCP will do the job as well as any small .380 and would not replace it. Thats not to say I would never buy a high dollar .380 though. Even without having the intention to carry it, I would still love to have a new Walther ppk.

All I can add is go buy a Beretta Cheetah in either Model 84 or 85 and then tell me it is not worth five hundred. Just my opinion.
This. A really great and proven firearm and worth every penny.

If you're happy with your LCP I wouldn't change it. Maybe a new range toy like a Cheetah would be a better choice than another pocket gun?

I do not quite understand if this thread is about carrying a cheaper pistol than a "$500" one or the carrying of an LCP (Ya really had me wondering with that"Elsie Pea" nonsense) because it is a reliable package. I personally have sixty or seventy pistols in .32, .380 and 9mm Mak....would not appreciate having any one of them pointed at me by a person in fear of his life as I know each to be reliable and capable of taking a life. My carry guns through the years have included the LCP however even though I knew it would shoot if needed I could not get over the way it fired and all the warning signs to remind one not to shoot themselves. Today my LE days are behind me and I carry mainly for self protection, usually a p238, p938, Star DK or M&P Bodyguard is found nearby along with my desire to never use one on another human ( although for fifty years I have had the mental preparedness to do so if required in the line of duty).
So carry cheap or expensive but do carry a reliable firearm and be prepared to use it in protection of life from deadly aggression.

Hoping not to ever have to point either of these at anyone, but they are enjoyable to hold and shoot even if they are .380's.
