Do I NEED a 226?

Hello, I have a Beretta 92 but I always envisioned getting a 226, as well. However, I don't know how different a 226 could be. Do they feel different shooting-wise or are they pretty similar?

P.S. I hear the 226's are easier to carry but I don't carry.

Thanks!

Everyone deserves a 226. My first a 226R before the lower rail. My second 226DAK with the best dbl. action I have ever used.

The 226 and the Beretta 92 are significantly different.../ grip angle is very different, grip area feels different...the 92 has a much longer trigger pull...

There are all kinds of differences...just there are in most full sized guns...

Do you need one no - but if you want one, yes they are a fine gun. Personally I prefer the 226 in the DA/SA trigger system...but you have some choices depending on what you want...

Yes, You need one. If you plan to carry the pistol, I would recommend the P229.

Get a P226 in 9mm and a P229 in .40 S&W. Then buy a .357 Sig barrel for the P229.

You need all of the above in addition to your Beretta.

Actually, I prefer the 92FS to the P226 and the P229 to both, so there you go.

The Beretta and Sig are completely different feeling shooters. Grip, trigger reach, flippiness, etc.

I never say no to a gun acquisition, but other than that, there are a number of pistols (including other Sigs) that I would acquire before the P226. I suggest renting or borrowing a P226 before acquiring.

Have a 92 Brigadier Inox... got a P228 for the SIG.

The P226 is nice. My father picked one up in .40. But for me, the problem with the P226 is pricing. SIG classic pistols are way overpriced, in my eyes. I got my P228 used (in great condition), for $735. I consider those (German made) collectibles... especially considering the history that means something to me.

The only gun one needs...is the next gun. Aside from that pithy little saying, the Sig 226 has earned its place on most folks short list of guns they wish they owned. Go for it.

The 92 and P226 are each classics. My P226 is a .357 SIG LEO trade-in. I'll bet the officer who owned it wished his department had allowed him to buy it. It's sweet.

They feel and shoot very differently.

I have an M9A3, and it even feels a bit different than a normal 92/M9. It doesn't take too much to alter how a pistol feels to shoot.

I like both pistols... But I think the 226 is a smoother shooting pistol. Though the M9A3 has some improvements in the trigger, not in the older pistols, and that trigger is better overall.

I recommend a 226 with the SRT trigger in it. I much prefer it over the standard trigger.

I know there was an updated part for the SRT trigger, that prevented an issue where the trigger would stop resetting properly. This was caused by damage to the part in question, over time. The new updated part was shaped differently, and prevents the issue completely.

I had to install the new part in my pistol, but new production pistols may already have the part, as it was a couple years ago now, when it was released.

I don't know 100% though, so I asked over at the sig forum. I will report back later.

Here is a post that describes the parts in question.
