Disaster Strikes (no this is not a Zombie or WROL post

I would also start with a compact hi cap 9mm pistol like the cz 75 compact. Although i dont believe in one size fits all, i do think it comes close.

My second would be a nice 357 revolver.

Well been up and down in life. One gun always there. 3 inch GP100. That would be the first to replace. Followed by a 357 snub and an 870 in 12 ga.

After that some form of 1911. And 22 revolver.

All thus would depend on life... If I have a full size and snub 357 my minimum needs are met

Actually, I have had to do that very thing, second divorce cost so much that I had to sell a 70+ gun US military collection. Took a few years to get back on my feet financially and after covering a few bases (house, couple of motorcycles, classic car) I have started to rebuild The Collection. I never got rid of all my guns, just the most valuable, as I needed money to pay off bills and lawyers.

What I decided to do, was to build on the few guns that I kept. What I hung on to was a couple of Smith & Wesson's and a lever action rifle that I inherited from my father (and my trusty 870 Remington). My collection is now focused on revolvers, mostly S&W and Colts with the odd Ruger here and there. Also I am always looking for pre '64 Winchesters.

If the SHTF financially for me again, I think that this time I would keep my....

1. Python

2. AR 15

3. 870 Remington

4. M94 Winchester

5. Izmash CM-2 .22 target rifle

@ DejaVu - I agree on the 12 GA shotgun, though I might place it second after a CCW. You must be back East, 45-70 is a great big game woods gun, though I did have a Marlin GG and a Browning 1886... I think I would opt for a 300 Win Mag for Elk and Deer here in the Rockies. Although I really like the .280/ 7mm ballistics. And yes ya gotta have a .22, which is what I am left with at this time.

I actually live in Idaho but in an area that is fairly heavily forested with lots of under brush. I find the longest shots I get are about 150-180 yards which I can do with a 45/70 (even with its "rainbow" tragectory)

One of these days I'll start building up the collection again.

That boating accident was tragic, but I learned to never put all your guns in one boat.

If I had to build my collection again from scratch, I would be either dead or not doing my job. I have gone to great lengths to protect my collection and at the very least, I would have one gun (possibly two) on me. I cannot divulge on a public venue what I have done to make my safe impregnable.

It would take a small nuclear blast to move my safe from its mooring and I remain confident that no man made or natural disaster (short of that nuclear blast) would take my safe. And for those that think that an extended fire would destroy the contents, I have a fireproof safe within my fireproof safe so I think not.

Glock 26 for CC
Ruger 10/22
Springfield M1A
Siaga 12GA

That would be my foundation. Then I can add around that as needed.:D

Can't live without the following;
1. 22lr handgun or rifle
2. shotgun
3. 357 mag revolver (or if I didn't hunt or romp around the woods it would be a 9mm pistol.)

I would start by getting the 10 gage back because I hunt in a shotgun only zone. then I would get the 500 mag because I waited a couple years before I could afford one. then I would get the mini 30 so I have a rifle avaliable. then the 12 gage, 410 and 22's I wouldnt get the black powder rifle again.

#1 A good quality .22 rifle.

#2 A cheap milsurp or police trade in pistol.

#3 or 4 A cheap shotgun (H&R, Maverick, Chinese) or a milsurp rifle depending on what I can get the best deal on first.

A 12ga shotgun, either 870 or mossberg 500, a 22 handgun and a Glock 17 or 19. These would take care of my needs, want is an other thing.
