Disadvantages of aluminum casings for non-reloaders?

None that I'm aware of, though I'm no expert on the subject.

I shot a good deal of CCI Blazer aluminum before I started reloading.

I never had a problem with it from any of my guns.

The .45 Colt 200 grain load in particular was a good "dispatch" round when hunting. I'd use it in lieu of another .454 Casull or rifle/shotgun round.

For function - non I've heard of.

You may have issues if you are headed to a range as they prefer brass and may have some rule for that specific range. Other than that, have fun shooting!

have had .357 magnums pooch out and tighten up where they wouldnt come out of the cylinder. werent wedged tight, but they didnt fall out like you might want to speed load, not like dropping out nickle plated whatever.

My Steyr 9mms don't like Al casings (they eat anything else), but every other 9mm I have doesn't have any problems.

I never had any problems with the Blazer aluminum, but I have heard Wolf ammo can cause a lot of FTE's because of the coating they put on their crappy (steel)? casings. I never use wolf, they only thing I ever shot Wolf ammo out of was an old crappy AK clone I had before this whole assault weapon scare.

I've had Blazers (.357 Mag) stick in the cylinders

of my S&W 28 and Colt Python after firing, but never in either of my S&W 19's.
I've used other Blazer such as 44 Magnum and 44 Special with zero problems.

I tried hard to like Blazers when they first came out. They had a .45 ACP SWC that shot great; it made old IPSC power factor 175 and was very accurate. But it was not reliable in any of the three guns I tried it in.
The current roundnose does OK in the different guns I have now.

The 9mm Blazer that Academy Sports sold for $3.79 a box back in the dark ages shoots fine in my guns. I still have some in reserve for when I get way behind in reloading or just to gloat over.

Some guns don't like it. My CZ75B (and I've heard this is common with the CZ75 pistols) malfunctions once in awhile if I use the Blazer aluminum ammunition.

It doesn't grip the bullet as tightly, so there is more of a tendency to experience setback in autopistols and more of a tendency for the bullets to walk out in a revolver.

I've used a lot of it for practice ammunition and have been very happy with it. Other than my CZ, I've not had any function issues in other pistols.

I'm glad this question was asked. I've alway stayed away from the blazer just "because". In reading the lack of problems here, I may give it a try for some range time in the future. Thanks!

Are there any serious disadvantages of aluminum casings over brass ones for people that do not reload?

No. Provided they work well in the guns you plan on shooting them outta.

I've fired a lot of it in 9mm, .40, and .45 without any issues. It even worked well in my CZ-P01 and I'd heard CZs are picky about the stuff. I won the last bowling pin shoot I entered using Blazer FMJ and my Kimber...

I experienced the "sticking in the cylinder" issue with a .44 Spl and the Blazer 200gr JHP. Too bad, because (at the time) they were about the only reasonably-priced .44 Spl ammo around.
