Disable TP9SA Decocker

I watched the section at least a dozen times. I honestly think the frame going into the pocket was more of an accident than an intended act in terms of racking the pistol. Again the camera angle stinks, but he himself says using his belt and mentions nothing about the pocket. Maybe he did it on accident in this clip, but he mentions in the video the decocker being actuated multiple times.

It could be that he was aiming for the belt and missed. The result being the pants pocket accomplished the task instead.

He may not have noticed this when doing the drill, and sometimes when this happens, he hits the decocker.

He may not actually realize what he's doing, but his technique (pulling the gun back up) suggests that he's used to doing it that way. If you were used to just pushing down and having the sight slide off the belt, then you'd be stymied when you tried to present the gun and the muzzle was still stuck in your pocket.

It would be like trying to bring the gun forward on the draw without having cleared the muzzle from the holster yet. If you do it at speed it's pretty disconcerting when the muzzle hangs up. It's possible to actually lose your grip on the gun if you drive it forward with the muzzle still tied up.

Interesting that the Walther P99QA had the same decocker (with a smaller button, though) and no one ever had any problems with it.

I have a P99AS with a similar decocker, and have never been able to accidentally depress it. However, in that pistol, it will just drop back to double action and still fire.

This all sounds like a solution in search of a problem. If one doesn't like the manual-of-arms of the TP9SA, there are plenty of other options. Canik's Turkish website even shows a photo of a TP9 without a decocker, so maybe it's headed this way eventually.

I think what you just said is an important difference though. The only way I could see hitting the button is because it is ambi and the button goes across the top of the slide. On the Walther the button is only on the one side. Frankly I think the Walther design makes hitting that button accidentally less easy. Though it still shouldn't be easy.
