dilemma on my J-frame

That's not a dilemma, it's an opportunity.

Several opportunities, actually.

One...to let your wife carry something she is comfortable with and confident in. Priceless.

Second, an orrortunity to make her happy. Again, priceless.

Third, an opportunity to buy a new gun for yourself. Plenty of pre-Lock S&W revolvers out there. Talk about win/win! :)

last Saturday my wife plans out a fancy date. At the end of this surprise date she pops this question on me. She asked me if she can have my 640 for her carry gun.

The ole surprise fancy date trick eh. :D

I've always found that these 'fancy date' tricks with momma usually end up costing me in one way or another as well. ;)

Give her the pistol and get you another. Plenty of dry firing the new one will give you the trigger you want.

Yeah I think I may have to let her have it. I am actually eyeballing an LCR (357 magnum) but I like the silver look and unless I am mistaken the LCRs are all black.

The trigger on the LCRs at the shop seem nicer than the new smiths. I am not devoted to any brand but I am devoted to the 357 magnum.

p.s. I really dont have any choice. Mama gets what she wants.

Do I let her have it and buy my self a newer model or do I keep it and let her pick out a newer model?

Give your lady the one she wants. Get yourself a new j-frame and give it a mild trigger job. That way, you'll both be happy. ;)

My wife has a PPK/S, but she likes my Smith model 637,and it ended up in her purse, so that gave me a reason to buy a new model 60.
There's never a bad reason to buy a new handgun!
Keep the wife happy, and let her have it.

The LCR-357 is not bad. I put the XS 24/7 Night Sight on mine. I have been hoping to get the wife to carrying it some. I also have the LCR-22 for a practice/Training J Frame size handgun.

My new CC gun however is a 442 Pro Moonclip. I have a pair of California Competition Works Moon Clip Carriers for my reloads. Tuff Products Quick strip in the pocket with shotshells for snakes. Carried at 4 O'Clock in a Lobo Model 1 Pancake with Inner Hammer Shield.

The 640 Pro mentioned above is another very good choice. Like was said above get a trigger job and enjoy. The 640 Pro and 442 Pro Moonclip were the two choices I was looking over. I like Moonclips so the 442 won out.

I tried an LCR 357 for a few weeks;

It is lighter and snappier, magnums actually sting.
The trigger was nice for an out of the box gun.
The lock-up was vague and clunky.

Got rid of it and went back to S&W.

If Momma ain't happy, then nobody's happy. I carry a Smith Model 38, for SD I load it with plus P's. You might give that a try.

I own a 640-2= 38spl+P. I would look for another 640, does she like shooting 357 mags out of your 640?? It is a little snappy for a snubby, just my opinion. Forget the Lcr, that is the snappiest snubby you can shoot. It would be like night and day to compare them. That 640 is like driving a cadilac compared to the Lcr. But again that is just me, had both, now I have only the 640 and it is a great firearm.
