did a little hollowpoint testing this morning

whatsup fellas?well i finally was able to get my glock 17 out this morning and do a little range time with it.i didn't feel comfortable keeping it as a home protector and haven't even fired it yet.heck,i didn't even know where the point of aim would be if an intruder came into my house.so,i went into the gun room and found some federal 9bp,the classic load from federal in the silver box,115 grain hollow point.i filled 2 empty gallon milk jugs with water and behind them i put a gallon orange juice, again filled with water, behind the 2 water jugs and the bullet totally opend the first jug and split the second while leaving 2 metal shards in the second jugs left a dent in the orange juice jug which was a thicker plastic than the milk jugs and i found the nicely mushroomed bullet about 6" from where it deflected.so,the 115 grain 9mm hollow point penetrated approximately 12" of water filled jugs and left a dent in the third.pretty good i think for being just a generic hollow point.anywho just though some might enjoy.sorry no pics but the mushroom would have been perfect except for those 2 small shards left in the 2nd jug.but hey they would have caused their own wound paths right?

sorry naterstein i DID dring the oj and even if i didn't the 9mm went thru 2 gallons of water and just dented the thicker oj jug.soit should be a little shaken and not stirred lol.

Try the Rem 124 grain 9mm HP in front of 6.0 grains of power pistol powder, will take out all three jugs and then some.

Im sorry , but I just won't accept this as a valid test of this bullet. Try lining up three bad guys, and shootin em. Then we'll know.;) jd

Sentencestructureandpunctuationisyourfriend. :)

That was an interesting test and does demonstrate the effectiveness in water. Not unlike the "box of truth" testing. The response about it not happening without pics is pretty standard and not meant to call you a liar. It just sounded interesting and we'd like to see the results.

Seriously, it is much easier to get a point across when some attempt is made to capitalize and use punctuation. It doesn't have to be perfect by any means, but it helps the reader when it is clear where one point stops and the next begins. Some of us didn't grow up in the instant message world.

Well sport,I thought that this was a firearms forum. But,maybe i was wrong. It seems that you are getting caught up in the english teacher side of things.Sorry that i didn't punctuate as well as i could have. But,in all fairness,I am at work in a busy ER and am dealing with life and death scenarios, real time,so I might not be able to take the time and use caps when i need to.Other than that i reread my post and it doesn't seem too far off to me,teach.;);)

I really meant no offense, hence the :).

Now get back to saving lives and do the gun stuff when you have more time. I'd hate for someone to die because you took the time to hit the shift key or spacebar when describing a bullet test. ;)

wow thanks guys for the support,i just got on here when i had a short break.but, why am i telling you guys this?you have more important things to do other than to critique someones grammar, right?

Shooting jugs and wet phone books is all great fun. Most any bullet will produce dramatic results. Water flying all over and stuff. Watermellons are even more fun.

And, bullets that don't expand well on human targets will expand wonderfully in water and look really impresseive.

Ballistic gelatin is far from perfect, but this is the testing means that tells us things about bullets that no water jug can. And that's what provides the method for comparing bullets with one another.

I dunno why foks try to kerrect yor gramer.

Yup, sure do. I commented on the test and tried to explain tjhands response in my first post in the thread. You chose to ignore that part...

thanks loupgarou!and sport, thanks for your positive,at the first of your first post, comments reguarding my impropmtu test.but,i didn't need correcting on the grammar or syntax.i chose to type like that due to comfort and time constraints.i know the right way i just didn't think that i would be repremanded about such things while i was on a firearms forum.

And I didn't need to be bashed for mentioning that the type of writing you used is difficult for some to read. I honestly thought I was helping...

Guns were made to shoot. Get some more range time with that G17 and let us know how you like it. I've never shot a Glock, but understand they make a nice handgun.

Truce?

Actually you did need correcting, you're breaking one of the forum rules that you read when you registered here....you did read them, right? (It'll make your time here on TFL much better if you follow the rules....I know, I've learned myself) :)

Forum Rule number four:
4) Mangling of the English language whether thru ignorance, age, sloth or intent diminishes and embarrasses each of us. Posts which are indecipherable due to inability to translate thoughts into coherent written statements will be deleted without explanation. Recidivists will be removed.

It is hard and unpleasant to read. At least capitalize each sentence and hit the space bar twice at the start of a new sentence.
