Detonics STX contender entry for the military pistol replacement

Looking to go back to 45 from 9mm.

That is not confirmed yet. The current competition states that changes to caliber are open as a possibility, but what or if they will change caliber has not been decided. They've been through this dance before and if they wanted a 45 they could easily have gone with the FNX, PX4, or HK45 contenders from the Joint Combat Pistol program last run around.

I know but the request doesn't even say looking. All it says is it is open to a possible caliber change. It doesn't mention 45 ACP specifically. It's deliberately vague.

Sure, but I don't think they'll actually make the change to a new platform and stick with the same caliber. That's one of the biggest complaints.

I don't think they're going to end up making any change at all. Going to a new caliber completely changes the current logistics system and puts us out of sync with NATO. Now you might say to hell with NATO and to an extent I agree, but with Russia heating things up in Europe I don't see us breaking NATO standards. If they don't change caliber then that begs the question is there any design that will bring about radical improvements just in the pistol itself? Frankly I think the answer here is no too. There's actually nothing stopping us from using hollowpoint ammunition as we never signed that section of the Hague Convention.

I work in the defense industry. If I have learned anything it is that the military almost never knows what it actually wants and what it says it wants changes constantly. Making correct guesses about what they want is about as easy as playing Battleship while blind.
