hello everyone just got back from the dnr shooting range in winamac .i had my first try at shooting my de 50 i have had to wait for three weeks now and it was worth the wait.i got out there at445 they closed at 500 so i only got off about 23 rounds if any one is interested it is not as bad as i have heard it is controlable and acurate i shot with my elbows rested at 25 yards and almost all holes were touching in a small kluster.(except the first round, i was worried about the reputation)after the first round i relized my arms were still attatched to my body it was fun and not to loud for me(i wear good ppe) i cant say the same for the guys two tables down they did not complain but between shots i thought i heard someone say ____ christ, they declined my offer to let them shot it so perhaps it was loud well sorry to carry on ,one word of warning though even after my short ammount of shooting my wrist did hurt some, and i shoot alot of cannons frequently so it must be powerfull, maybe the gas operation makes the recoil tolerable.its reputation for jamming is confirmed(to me anyways) it jammed 2 times both on the last round(did not close all the way ) maybe i was limp wristing at the end because of its weight.well if any one has more questions maybe ill have some answers with more shooting of yhis cannon have a good day.

I've got one in the bright chrome finish. Not exactly a "carry gun", but I love the thing. I shoot Speer Gold Dots in mine, and while I've only put 20 rounds through it, it has never jammed. It's tons of fun. Enjoy.

I flinch every time I look at the price sticker on the .50AE Gold Dots in the store. This is a pretty extravagant caliber, expensive and impractical platforms shooting very costly ammunition.

If I ever get a good deal on a used DE, I might just pick one up for fun, but I think I'd prefer mine in .44 Magnum. A box of Magtech semi-jacketed flat nosed costs less per 50 than the .50 AE Gold Dots cost per 20.

Similar experience with my MkVII DEP .50AE when I first shot it. I did and still do have a .44mag DEP MkVII so I had an idea of what to expect. The concerns of excessive recoil are, IMO, way overblown when shooting the DEP. The stiff duel springs, gas assist, and most importantly, heavy slide really help in dampening recoil. I also had 1 or 2 FTFs with SPEER ammo but none with Samson. My wrists didn't hurt the next day though.

If you plan on shooting it often, might I suggest a reloader.

Can I ask a general question about these guns? My understanding is that they have fixed-sights only. Do they shoot to point-of-aim? What is the remedy if they shoot high or low? (I assume that the rear sight can be drifted along in a dovetail to correct windage).

These guns intrigue me. I often thought about purchasing one, although maybe not the .50.

I have a Mk VII .357 Mag.,and a Mk XIX .50 AE.Have never had the shooting high or low problem with either.Had to adjust the windage, though.Millett has some adjustable ones if you're into that.

I just got the .50 about 6 months ago--have fallen in love.Recoil isn't all that horrendous,but you definitely need hearing protectors.I can hit a picnic plate with a full magazine,at 100 yds.,offhand.

I'd trust the .50 against any critter in the US(including Alaska),and most foreign ones.

Mine is surprisingly accurate. Also, I have found the Gold Dots in 50AE for 16 bucks per box of 20. That's a little under a buck a bullet. While it's expensive, keep in mind that you might shoot 100 rounds or more of 9mm in a session, you won't shoot more than 20 (or 40 tops) of 50AE.

Rocklobster.

I've been checking with Cole every month, and they don't have any in stock. They're not sure they're getting any more either. Have you heard differently???

Lordy, lordy... I had no idea Speer made .50 AE GDs. I look at my .45 GDs and the cavity is quite impressive. No idea what the AE version would be. Might have to get me a couple just for my collection... might be one of the only pistol cartridges that would scare a BG off without the gun even being around...

Wow! I visited the Magnum Research page and read more about this pistol, which until this week had passed entirely below my radar! Cool!

Just go watch any recent action movie (matrix comes to mind); you'd think that DE's are about the only pistol worth considering carrying around.

A friend of mine took a .50AE DE out shooting, and from a bench, was hitting playing cards at 100 yards with one. That's impressive!

I want to get a DE in 44mag. I have no need for the 50ae except being able to tell people that i have one. The only thing that has kept me back the the price tag but some day I will have one. I also love the idea of getting one gun and many barrels. When I do get the 44mag I will be able to get the 357mag, 50ae, and other kits.

I doubt using .50BMG bullets would work as that spitzer would increase the overall length of the round and the DEP is long (front to back) enough at the grip. I;m not sure how a stubby spitzer 'for the .50AE that would fit in OAL would work would be pretty odd looking.

Cole Distributing was at the Hara Arena gun show in Dayton, OH and they said that they were out of .50 AE and didn't know when they would get more in because of the conflict in Israel.

Yep,got that idea the last time I was on the IMI website.Think they're using their equipment and manpower making ammo for their anti-Arab firearms over there, right now.

Rocklobster:

I've got a Dillon 650, but don't think I can reload 50AE on it (I know the 550 can). Can you? I'd think if you used a 44 mag conversion kit and .50AE dies, it would work.

branrot:
I don't know much about Dillon's stuff-I don't like progressives-too easy to make mistakes.I have heard and read that their stuff is excellent, though.

I have no problems at all loading .50 AE with my Rockchucker. The .50 AE has the same diameter rim as the .44 Magnum,it's just thicker.
