Derringer as a bug

I have always thought of the derringer as a last ditch gun. Its size makes it much easer to hide, therefore much easer to overlook. In other word if you ever find your self still breathing and in the hands of the bad guys, with a derringer you just might still have a gun.

Or any other such messed up scenario.

Derringers are cool for novelties, but I personally wouldn't use one for BUG. I don't think any of them are as light as my P32, and I can fire it quicker and more accurately than any Derringer I've tried. I suppose if I had one and it was light enough, I'd use it for BUG rather than go without. I have a BUG on me at all times.

So what can I find in super small light revolvers? I would not want to have a slide on this gun as it is likely if used it would be with my wrist at an odd angle with someone right up against me and every other bad circumstance.
Consider I thing the LCR will be my primary as soon as it is proven. Maybe I will just have to carry two of them...
Why are the best carry guns so ugly?

Never in a million years ... it's better than throwing a fry pan, but just barely ... not sure what derringer you own that's so light ... I bought a Bond Cowboy Defender in 9mm because I thought they looked cool and really wanted one. They're hard to shoot, amazingly inaccurate, have to be cocked twice against a very heavy spring, reloading takes forever unless you practice constantly -- and you have only TWO rounds to use. I sold mine fast. For less weight, I pocket carry a Kahr PM-9 -- 7 rounds of 9mm, a quick reload with a magazine, not fumbling with loose rounds, and far more accurate and easy to use. Derringers are fun to look at and maybe to shoot occasionally, but I would NEVER bet my life on one. Hope you don't either.

Bikerbill says, "They're hard to shoot, amazingly inaccurate, have to be cocked twice against a very heavy spring, reloading takes forever unless you practice constantly -- and you have only TWO rounds to use."

Amen, brother. (And they are often unreliable to boot.)

To an unanswered question - the best light revolvers, combo of weight and price are the SW 642s. The Sc guns are terribly expensive. A not to killer personal defense round for 38s ain't that hard to shoot in a 642.

How is the LCR - I'm not going near that!
