Dennis Miller "All In" on HBO

Any stand up comedian who doesn't spend their entire political bit on bashing Bush, the red states, and the war effort is ok with me.

Then watch Carlos Mencia, he rips on EVERYBODY :D

When Miller painted gun owners as gap-toothed rednecks by saying," you shouldn't own more guns than teeth..." I turned him off permanently.

See, I don't know why because it's pretty funny. It's making fun of a stereotype...black people laugh when Dave Chappelle or D.L. Hughely make fun of black stereotypes so what's wrong with laughing at redneck stereotypes? Jeff Foxworthy, who grew up not too far from where I did, once said "If you've ever emptied your truck by driving in reverse real fast then slamming on the brakes, you might be a redneck" and I certainly didn't take offense despite the fact that I've done that on many occassions.

Not owning more guns than teeth I found funny but not nearly as much as Maher's comment once: "One gun a month...if you start at 18 by the time you're 40 you'll have over 200 guns. I don't care how small your **** is, that's enough guns!" Paraphrased but it still made me chuckle.

"See, I don't know why because it's pretty funny. It's making fun of a stereotype"

It might be funny if it were part of a comedy routine. In the rant I saw (I believe it was a commercial for his TV show) there was no attempt to be funny. Miller was dead serious, and his message was that guns are bad, people who own them are bad, and anyone who says anything different is spouting bull$hit. His word, not mine.

He made it clear that he is very strongly anti-gun.

He's a comedian. He's always attempting to be funny; even when commentating on a football game he'd try to do part of his act. To think that he actually believes that all gun owners are toothless rednecks is as silly as thinking that all gun owners are toothless rednecks. It's a joke. It was a sarcastic comment playing on two stereotypes: many toothless rednecks own guns and many gun owners are toothless rednecks.

I don't know about y'all but I can still enjoy an artist's work or be friends with someone or even agree with a person on plenty of other issues despite their stance on guns. It's one issue of many and at the very least he's a strong supporter of free speech which is just as important in my opinion.
