Dennis Miller "All In" on HBO

starts tonight. check it out. I saw him on Jay Leno last night. He is funny and I think right on but that is just my opinion - I could be wrong.

It would be unlike the HBO crowd to air something that may lean a little to the right. Bill Maher is usually as conservative as they get.

I won't watch Dennis Miller ever, under any circumstances. I once saw him go off on an anti-gun rant that was absolutely incredible. I didn't even watch Monday Night Football when he was on it. He can fall off the face of the Earth for all I care.

Tim

Was the anti-gun rant before or after his seeing the light. Pre 9-11-01 he was a true liberal. His show on MSNBC was decidedly conservative. There are so few conservative comedians. He may be more of a New York/LA conservative.

The rant I heard was Brady Bunch fodder, along the lines of "I don't have a problem with hunting, but no one needs a semi-automatic assault rifle/cop-killing bullets" etc. I've rarely heard him say anything constructive or even truly original, and his rant just showed again that whether he leans right or left in the breeze, Miller is an elitist with no way of connecting to the majority of his fellow citizens.

Ever see the Family Guy episode that spoofed him? It was supposed to be parody, but they nailed him so well it almost wasn't as funny as it could be because it was true to life. Spouting off a list of obscure Shakespeare references and words that only a few people understand isn't funny. I have a big vocabulary too after a 4 year degree in Philosophy, but that doesn't make me a comedian.

I don't like Maher's stance on guns at all, but at least he'll take Dems and Repubs to task when need be, and I prefer his sarcastic deadpan.

Caught him accidently last night and was pleasantly surprised to hear an entertainer NOT spewing the usual liberal garbage.
Shocked actually!!
I enjoyed it!

You're just sore because conservatives just aren't funny. :p It's hard to be a fuddy duddy and make the girls laugh, I know. :D

Rarely the former, dependably the latter.

I caught Miller's show last night, he was critical of Bush on a few points. He probably is still somewhat anti-gun. Any stand up comedian who doesn't spend their entire political bit on bashing Bush, the red states, and the war effort is ok with me.:)

You'd be surprised, BM has plenty of choice words for Dems who waffle and are full of hot gas while not really standing for anything. It's just that the current administration offers comedians such a steady, reliable supply of comedic material that it just seems they get picked on...when you offer that much low hanging fruit, comics are going to grab most of it.

Who said there wasn't good comediac material there? <Insert your fat Jewish girl from California joke here>

Seems to be a Republican dementia--anything even remotely negative or not sounding 100% enamored about GWB necessitates a whole bunch of griping about how BC was a million times worse.

Caught the special on HBO myself, and it was funny. Also, his support of our troops seems genuine, and well directed.

Also, I feel bad for people who cannot laugh at something that is funny, just because it goes against their political bent. A well crafted joke about President Bush can be just as funny as a well crafted joke about President Clinton.

When Miller painted gun owners as gap-toothed rednecks by saying," you shouldn't own more guns than teeth..." I turned him off permanently.

Just curious... Do you *ever* stop trying to bait Republicans into arguments?

Tim

No, because they never stop baiting people with troll material like what I was responding too.

It takes two to tango. Don't want me to rebut your arguments? Then think them through, don't post drive by style oneliners about how liberals are evil baby eating creatures who want to steal your inheritance and spend it on crack, and we'll be fine.

The thread had nothing--NOTHING--to do with BC, and yet someone had to drop the old "well he did it too" turd in the punchbowl, and I called them out on it. How is that baiting?
