Definition of Mouse Gun - Proposal

Mouse Gun

When I was a kid, we use to have "rat killiings" in the barn. The guns we used were called Mouse or Rat guns.

Didn't matter if you could get them in your pocket or not.

We had an old-fashioned corn crib that was a hang-out for mice and sometimes rats. We used a .22 rifle, though this was overkill. The rifle definitely would not fit into my pocket. :)

Corn crib rat killin' with a .22 rifle (Revelation from Western Auto) was a frequent sport on our farm. No mice, just cat size wharfers. And cottonmouths down by the pond.

I would suggest the official definition of mouse gun to be "a handgun of any type with an overall length of no more than 5.5 inches and a height of no more than 4.0 inches." .... To my knowledge, the Rohrbaugh would be the only 9mm semi-auto to make it.

Actually the PM9, at 5.3" X 4.0", would qualify, and as a PM9 fan I should probably campaign for it's inclusion. Frankly though, even though I pocket carry my PM9 as my EDC, I think it's too big to be called a "mouse gun", as are the P238 and Colt Mustang, IMO.

I think the LCP/P3AT sized guns should be the upper limit, if we actually need a definition. And I have seen some pretty heated posts over what is and what ain't.

Which is actually the reason I proposed an objective definition. It doesn't necessarily have to meet the criteria I proposed but a lot of people have a lot of different ideas on what a mouse gun is.

"A mousegun is most often considered a category of small revolver, or semi-automatic handgun intended for self defense. Typically such small pistols are of .380 ACP (9mm Short) caliber or less, with .32 ACP, 25 ACP and .22 Long Rifle calibers also being common. The term is used to describe a class of small handguns." Wikipedia.

I don't consider a 38 Special, 9MM, 357 mag and Sig, 40 or 45 a mouse gun. They are small heavy caliber handguns. I carried a small S&W 6906 sometimes at work and it was by no means a mouegun!

mouse gun

Any small 22,25 or 32 that fits in your pocket= mouse gun

A 380 that fits in your pocket is a BUG (back up gun)

see the differance

Gun on left = sub-compact 12 oz. pocket gun, snappy recoil, not real fun to shoot. (Ruger LCP, .380 ACP)

Gun on right = classic all-steel Mousegun (the first?), 14 oz., easy and fun to shoot, very little recoil (Colt Vest Pocket .25 ACP)

Mouse guns

Well it seems fitting that my first post should be in the "Mouse guns" thread, if you consider my name. What about a Raven ,25 ? My kind of gun since I'm poor as a ...
