Deer hot spots targeted for more 'harvesting'

My understanding is that the deer population explosion is mostly due to the control of the screw worm. These worms would eat the living flesh of animals causing sores that would get infected to the point that the animal would die. I don't have any first hand experience, only what I have been told. Perhaps someone here knows more about it.

Perhaps PETA and the others would be in favor of reintroducing the screw worm as it is nature's way. Yeah, that is WAY more humane than a bullet.

These 'heart-wrenching', anguished letters keep exposing the real truth.

These aren't "animal lovers".

They're "human haters".

They loathe themselves, and by extension the species they belong to, with such vehemence that any extremity makes sense to them. They are exactly the folk who I enjoy annoying by ordering my filets rare & bloody. My boyfriend took two bumper stickers & performed a bit of surgery on them to create one perfect one. Below the line "Meat is Murder!!", he affixed Outback's slogan "No rules, just right!"...

"..but never ever Fear. Fear is for the enemy. Fear and Bullets."
10mm: It's not the size of the Dawg in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog!

I love watching deer. They do appear to be very peacefull and gracefull.

They taste good too. My freezer is getting empty, I can't wait for deer season!

Shok

Lets ban hunting and bring back the nice friendly wolves, cougars, and bears :) Wonder how long it would take before people either decided the predators had to go, again. Or figured guns weren't such a bad thing to have around :)

Course people call the cops or security for bats and rats and snakes. I wouldn't believe it but I was running dispatch in college for security when I got a call from someone wanting us to do something about a rat. Also got a call for a bat. Sheesh.
I wonder though, would the sheeple demand Critter control SWAT?

Halffast: You are correct about the screwworms, at least as Texas is concerned.

The cycle is that screwworm flies lay eggs in open wounds. The eggs hatch and the larva feed on the meat until maturity. As long as the wound is open, flies keep laying eggs in it. It was a helluva problem until Governor Briscoe got the money going while he was a state representative, back in the late 1940s/early 1950s.

Male flies were collected, irradiated to sterilize them, and then dropped in boxes from airplanes all over Texas. They'd mate with females, but to no avail. This pretty well save the cattle, sheep and goat "bidness" from the horrendus loss rate of earlier times, when the economics of ranching was in a decline. Texas was pretty well cleaned up by the late 1960s, but hurricanes would bring them in from Mexico. It took a while to persuade the Mexican Government that they should let us drop the sterile males there, also; they figured it was some sort of Gringo plot. Duh?

I learned more than I wanted at around age six, helping my grandfather doctor baby calves. Screwworms were common in the navel, as well as a problem when dehorning or castrating. Any wound, e.g., from barbed wire, was also a problem.

Now you know more than YOU wanted!

pax ... Tamara ... great comments, for sure.

Reminds me of one wag who said ... 'if we're not supposed to eat animals, then why are they all made of meat ...' ;)

Let's be honest folks - most of these PETA types appear to be mildly insane. We need to insist that the leaders of our communities have the juevos to stand up to these fools, and take appropriate actions.

Let me propose one alternative theory. The deer are stressed by over-population, and they are committing suicide by running in front of our cars ... ;)

Art,

Thanks for the info. Your right about it being more than most would want to know. Too bad Barfie doesn't work here anymore.
