Decisions, decisions...

Hello all,
I just got around to registering here, though I must admit, I've been lurking for awhile. Anyway, I was just visiting my local gunshop and noticed that they have a nice Cz-52 for $250. Anyway, after discussing it with the wife she said if I want it one of my other guns has to go. As you can imagine, I'm not too happy about this. The last time this happened, I bought the gun anyway (it was a gorgeous .38 Colt), and just left it in the safe for like six months, well one day she found it and said if it happened again she would shoot me with it. I don't think she was serious, but she was ****** enough that I don't think I'll be trying that one for a while... Unless it's something that I just can't pass up. Anyhow, the only guns in the safe that would be equivalent price-wise would be a Kel-Tec P3AT and a Ruger Security Six, that I got a hell of a deal on. I don't particularly want to give up the Ruger as it's the only .357 in my safe right now (not to mention I paid considerably less tyhan $250 for it), so I was thinking of trading the KT. I'm not very fond of the little gun. Accuracy is poor at anything more than 5yds, the ballistics are weak, ammo is terribly expensive, and it tries to jump out of my hand every time I pull the trigger - no matter how tightly I grip it. Despite all this, it does have one very appealing feature. It allows me to have a gun when carrying a larger gun otherwise impossible or at least uncomfortable. So what do you guys think? What would you do in my situation?

Hmm....

Uh... probably not:rolleyes:. I hear those things can be awfully expensive... not to mention I don't want to divorce my wife. Thanks for the welcome though!

From your loving description of your KT it sounds like trade bait in this case. If the nicest thing I could say about a gun was that it was small, it would be gone already....

Yes, that feature appears to be that if your wife decides to shoot you with it, she probably won't hit you. The weak caliber could also work in your favor if she does.

I had a new wife for a short time. She didn't get along with my guns and shooting. I was running the AK NG Marksmanship Unit at the time and did have to spend a good deal of time with guns, shooting and shooters.

I use to have a set up where I had a door in the living room that opened up to the garage. It gave me 50 foot for 22 shooting from the front room. I didn't shoot when anyone else was home, but did do a lot of dry firing.

One day she was cooking dinner and I was in the living room dry firing. She started screaming. "dry firing again....snap snap snap........thats all you do, I want you to stop snapping that thing right now".

Find I says "You don't want me to dry fire......find.....I wont". I then threw a clip in the 45 and let her rip........dented my bullet trap a bit but she stopped complaining about my dry firing.

Got rid of her, now I got a good one that is totally supportive of my shooting.

A FAMILY THAT SHOOTS TOGETHER, STAYS TOGETHER

Actually, the one she was referring to was the Colt, which is one of my favorite handguns (it may be my all time favorite) and hers ironocally enough. And that little revolver is scary accurate for its size - plus my wife is a pretty good shot with a pistol. Truthfully, she is pretty supportive of my hobbies, but doesn't like the expense for things she sees as frivolous. Especially, since a large part of gun cabinet is dedicated to "collector" weapons, which are only rarely (if ever) shot. I only have about six guns that are regular "users." In her mind; if you have a gun what would you need another for? Frustrating.

That's seriously a bunch of b.s.

She not only says you can't have another gun but tells you WHICH one you must get rid of, if you do want one?

Unless there is a household responsibility that is not being taken cars of first, then with all due respect, she needs to stop nagging at you.

If it were me.... I would trade the KelTec and maybe throw the wife in there to for a holster.

Frivolous? Go man up! March into the closet and start a pile of shoes and purses. Then say the same crap about them.

She didn't define which one had to go, I based this based on BB values alone, and those are the only two that would be close to the CZ. It is my experience that when you "trade down" you often end up losing quite a bit of money; and since there is a significant difference in value between the rest of my collection and those two pistols, it makes them the obvious candidates. Plus, there aren't many others in the cabinet that I would be willing to part with, regardless of price, (due to uniqueness, historical value, etc.) not that the owner of this shop would be willing to pay an acceptable percentage what some guns are worth. Not that I think he's a cheap-skate, but I doubt he'd be able to sell many of them through his shop. Online maybe, but I think they sell mostly to a different crowd.

Next time she wants a piece of jewelry, tell her that she can't buy one, until she gets rid of one that she has already ;)

I recall my wife making similar comments (read "demands") around the time I hit gun # 4 or 5, asserting that I only needed one.

I replied that she only needed one purse; she thought about it for a few moments and I've never had a problem since :p .

Does she collect shoes or purses? Tit for tat..... she must also have a hobby... a long time ago I made a deal if it didn't come from the house budget and did not enter the house....it was all good.... I built a 12x24 building in the back yard! She never saw it coming:D

$250 seems awful expensive for a CZ 52, even if that was the OTD price and it came with all the usual accessories.

Why dry fire when you can use live ammo ;):D

Funny story.

To the OP, you realize that if all your guns are in a safe it's not going to help you much if you need to use them in a hurry?
