Decision time: 10MM

How about a SIG design in another company's hands?? :)

Star Megastar 10mm
SIG look & feel, with the 14 rounds per mag
that nothing but a Glock can offer :)

We should also note that the Big 5" MegaStar's all-steel weight worked to tame the felt-recoil of real, full-throttle 10mm ammo. In that way it's similar to my DA/SA Sig P220, or to the old Smith 5" 1006s/1026s.

Not to mention, the big 10mm and .45acp MegaStars didn't look like anyone else's big bore autoloaders in those calibers ... They looked like a space gun, something Mr. Spock might've carried as a back-up piece to his Star-Fleet duty Phazer.

I own around 6 1911 guns. Half are Kimber, and one of those is in 10mm (Target Match II). Flawless running, every one of them.

Blue Dot and 180's at about 1200fps for my state's handgun deer season.

If someone gave me a Glock I would trade it as a down payment on something else.

I got rid of a Baer 1911 after getting a Glock 36...

I recently bought into the 10mm, and I wanted the longest barrel I could get... Ok, maybe not the longest (9").

That meant Glock 40 and a 7" KKM barrel... I can get 200 grain bullets going faster than most other 10mm pistols can get 180's... And I can do it with loads that don't wreck brass or risk fingers, I'm using Accurate data, but could use Hornady data and get nearly 1,400 fps with 200 XTP's, I've shot them, they're safe and accurate.... But really, really loud.

Glock, 1911, Sig..... They're all EXCELLENT designs.

But if hunting is the reason for buying 10mm, why not maximise the ballistic potential.... They market these 10mm's for hunting, then they put a 5" barrel on most of them.... Just doesn't make sense to me.

My point is.... Don't get caught up in brand names, they're all very well made and will last a lifetime.... Decide what you want out of it, and go from there.

It's probably obvious that I'm a Glock guy, but I wasn't always one.... Glocks won me over free and clear even though I did NOT want to like them.

I still say it... Glocks are ugly and they have no soul, but the darn things just plain work for a lot of people... And work very well.

Gaston would not be the billionaire that he is if that were not true.

I could have any 10mm I want... From Sig, to Dan Wesson, to Baer, any of them.

I bought a Glock... And would do it again.

whats the purpose of 10 mm?
dont you have to change barrel in glock 10 mm to shoot lead bullets? that is not perfection.

Purpose of the 10mm ????
A 180 gr .400 bullet at 1300 FPS

Harrdcast bullets can be fired if need be ..from a Glock barrel ...

I really dont argue about brands of firearms ... But useally there is a reason when a pistol is compared to others.. and firearm makers are trying to compete

In my world the purpose of 10mm is hunting, Primarily.
Home Defense comes second as a useful option.

For an old Archer, it's a way to maintain that UP-CLOSE
requirement of hunting...by using a 10mm pistol, you have to get
within 75 yards...preferrably closer, much closer ;)

Lets you know if your stalk/sneak skills are still up to par.
So, adding a 9" Lone Wolf Barrel lets you use LEAD ammo,
along with giving one the extra barrel length and FPS bonus.

However, the G40MOS is quickly taking over that role for many,
the Longslide version of the G20 has its advantages...still,
I like my 9" barrel, even if it stick out like a sore thumb.

Actually, with the advent of poly-coated hard cast boolits, you don't need an aftermarket 10mm barrel with traditional rifling.

The poly coating allows you to shoot 10mm HC boolits out of the stock Glock tube. 500-rds of 220gn coated WFNGC HC down the stock 6.02" barrel of my G40, and not one issue.

FWIW,Ruger has offered a 10mm 1911. Its on youtube.
And,Rock Island offers a double stack.
I have no experience with either, just noting options
