Deciding on a Glock 17

I'd just get a few G17 mags for now and use them n your G19 (and G26). Don't even need grip sleeves unless you like the way they look. Be careful with sleeves though, they can tear up your hand if you slam in the magazine!

If you decide to get the G17 anyway, the extra mags weren't a waste of money.

agreed. I use g17 mags in my g26.

Get the G17. You gotta have an example of what started it all. Even if it is several generations advanced.
But that's just me. While I have my more serious uses covered, I buy other guns for the "just because" factor. My first Glock was a G20 because I didn't have a Glock, and didn't have a 10MM. Then I found a very nice used gen3 17 at a good price, and bought it for the afore mentioned reason.:D

I am a huge fan of buying the lone wolf conversion for the 22. Its cheap and easy. But I would see the conversion as a range only use unless you went ahead and changed the extractor. If I remember right they are the same recoil spring weight (that may just be gen 3, you would have to look into factory specs). I would continue to use the .40 as nightstand duty... that is until you get your glock 34... which sounds like you desperately need. :D my gen 4 g34 is by far my favorite gun. I prefer it over my AR and I prefer it over my 4 other handguns. its just a dang good shooter, get one :)

I'd get a conversion barrel and 17 mags for your 22. If you like to mess with them then get another gun. I have the collection and personally enjoy customizing them. Plus more guns is better :)

Unless you have an agency issued 22, I'd sell it / trade it for a 17, and just run all 9mm. For the cost of a conversion barrel and a few magazines, you are on your way to buying a 17 outright.

Now, all of your magazines work in the next size down, and you can buy 1,000 round cases of 9mm.

I bought a Storm King 9mm for my wife's G23 to allow her to use cheaper 9mm lead alloy rounds. For a hundred bucks, or so, it works well, and even shoots to the same point of aim as the factory .40 S&W bbl. The 9mm bbl. has been 100% reliable for her as well, and the two mags were police trade in's...ie. cheap. Rod

I bought the Glock 27 and then bought a Lone Wolf 9mm barrel and some G17 and G19 mags for it. So, I now have one gun that can shoot 9mm or .40S&W with a grip the size of the G26, G19 or G17. What's not to like?

I'd say start with getting some G17 mags and that Xgrip mentioned in the OP. That's the cost-effective way to start. If you're still unhappy, get the G17.

I do not think that having another Glock (G17) will give enough variety to warrant the cost when you already have a G26, G19, and G22.
If you just want a full size Glock in 9mm, get 40-9 conversion barrel for the G22 and a G17 magazine.
If you keep the G22 with the conversion barrel and do not trust it for HD, then the G19 can take over HD.
========
So,
Start with 1 G17 magazine and used it on the G19.
If not satisfied with G17 mag in G19, then get 40-9 conversion barrel for G22.
If not a 40-9 conversion barrel for the G22, then get a Glock 34.

Why limit yourself to glocks? That's like buying nothing but one kind of cereal or only buying Chevy vehicles. There are a bunch of autos that feel much better in the hand or with better triggers or better sights (cough, PPQ, cough, 1911, cough, M&P sneeze).

The G19 is so close to the size of the G17 I think it would be pointless. Maybe just get a conversion barrel

Good choice.

Although I love the fact you can get so many parts, they do add up. I was just doing the math on switching my gen 3 G20 to .45. I have an extra barrel, but would need new slide and internals. Don't want to mess up the G20.

So in the end, I could use the frame, but then would have half of a g20 sitting around and did not want that, so building up a new Glock from just a barrel would be too costly.

Might as well buy a new one unless I could find a low cost lower frame?? Not going to happen anytime soon. And also would have to go thru FFL.
