Deciding on a .308

You should take a look at the Marlin Owners Forum. They call them Remlins now. That forum has an entire section called the Marlin Rant Forum. You won’t see much of anything positive about Remington there.

I own one Savage bolt gun in .17 HMR. Well made and accurate, and I never hear anything negative about them, hence my decision to go with the Savage 10, but I’m still open to other suggestions. I may not end up with a Savage. I think the stocks on the 10's are different than the nice wood stock on mine. The price of the Savage 10 is very appealing. Heck, I may not even end up with a .308, but another caliber.

I tried to read most of the posts but may have missed something. You said you had a savage 10 and didnt like it... what was the issue with it? you are looking for a 1 moa shooter and the savage is definitely a candidate. Personally I would go with a remington 700 or a Savage. Parts are much more available with the remington 700 and Savages than a mossberg or t/c.

It's hard when looking for new rifles these days because for all the good reviews and things hear, there will always be some bad.. I have rifles that have seen people say are bad and had problems, including my 2 Savage model 93's and both have been great shooters for me.. But have read some others not had same experiences..

So at end of day no matter what you pick, someone, somewhere I'm sure gonna of had a issue with it like anything.. Thankfully the Rem 700 trigger recalls are in past so if got one, new gun get that shouldn't be a issue.. I am just trying pick what appeals to me the most and that Rem SPS tactical seems be calling my name:cool::D .. But who knows.. As said haven't bought anything yet so never.. I started this post planning to get a .308 and thanks to some smart/helpful posts have decided to got one in .223 which will save me lot of money and work better for my use..

O and to above poster.. yea the Savage model 10 had in past had a crappy/flimsy stock that came loose a lot.. I didn't get good accuracy out of it, probably due to the crap stock.. I just wasn't happy with it overall.. It didn't feel like a solid rifle.. As I said before I like Savage.. I own a few rimfire Savages and love them.. I just wasn't happy with that model 10 I had..

Well if it was a sythetic stock than i can understand the flimsy problem other than the coming loose part( thats what loc tite is for).

I have several other synthetic stock rifles and not had the issues had with this rifle.. They not flimsy and feel like junk like the one on model 10 I had. Yea the stocks are plastic but must've of just gotten a bad one..

I may very well of just been unlucky and gotten a fluke, bad rifle, or whatever want call it.. It happens with anything.. As said not bad mouthing Savage in anyway as very happy with the rimfire guns have from them.. It just doesn't make me eager to want to run out and buy another centerfire savage.. So figure will try something different.. The rem 700's are always highly recommended so will finally give one of them a shot.

Thanks again everyone.. Pretty sure this threat helped point me in right direction and definitely been a big help.

I have the exact rifle/caliber you are wanting. T/C Venture Predator in .308. Crazy accurate and the price is right.
