.49 caliber balls means you got more lead than you should have. Not bad.

.490 would be a patched ball in a .50, that is what I use.

I, once, forgot to pack my newly cast .457" balls but had plenty of .490" balls in my shooting box so I tried them in my Ruger. What a bear to load! I only loaded one cylinder and went back to my boolits instead. I wouldn't try doing that with a repro!

They sure did leave huge rings of lead!
